I will be replacing the 91Q tires soon, I live in the Houston TX area where good wet traction is my number one priority. What's the best wet weather/traction tire for the Q, I'm running the stock 15 Q rims.

Thanks

Definitely the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP. I am using these in a 225/60-15 size currently and it fits the stock rims perfectly, although very slightly off in its overall diameter! I am planning to get them in a larger size for larger rims shortly.

Best tire I have ever used for its outstanding wet weather characteristics!

Wet weather traction is a function of compound softness, tread depth and inflation pressure [to maximize the molecular forces between the tire and the road.

Interesting to note various test have shown that directional tires may not provide the benefits most expect in wet weather....in all conditions, depends on water depth and speed.Hard compound directionals are not better than soft compound non directionals.

In the 15" size for a Q/J nothing beats the SZ50 for wet weather

Are there any safety issues with running the S250's on the stock 15x6.5 rims. The S250's are sized for 15x7.5 rims.

The SZ50EP's are also my favorite tires.

A 15" x 114.3 x 6.5JJ rim can be used with up to a 245mm..........acccording to THEIR SPECS a 225/60/15 is actually measured on a 6.5" wheel.What is an "S250" we were talking about Firestone SZ50EP tires?http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...50+EP

Sorry about the typo, I mean't SZ50EP, does Firestone still make the old SZ50's, what is the difference. I know the EP's are improved and the newer replacement.

I understand the largest size for the Q in SZ50EP is 225/60/15. I would like to go with a larger 235/60/15 size tire with similar wet traction capabilities. Are there other tires in the larger size, say mabe the Yoko AVS DB, ES100 or the Bridgestone RE750. I would be willing to give up some wet traction features for larger size, how do these tires compare to the SZ50EP's.

All the tires you mention do not compare well with the SZ50EP.Hmm are they not making the SZ in 235/60-15?That is indeed the preferrred size on a Q w/ stock tires.

The 225/0-15 is the largest in a 15 inch size (for the SZ50EP that is). It results in a slightly smaller diameter than stock, but not enough to matter. IMO, this is a trivial difference. The tires are awesome! I have no direct comparison experience with the other makes mentioned here, and I am also considering them too. But the SZ50EP has a distinct advantage for me: I know how good they are! :)

In a 235/60-15 size, the only worthwhile tire I know of (at Tirerack) is the Michelin Pilot XGT H4. While Dennis (Q45Tech) has very good things to say about this tire, I am very biased against it, due to my terrible wet weather experience with the Michelin Pilot XGT V4 ... which, admittedly, may be enough different from the H4 to not be an issue.

Of course, also note Dennis's pro stance above on wet weather behavior of the SZ50. :)

The SZ50EP is a change from the SZ50, but is still the best that I can think of for the original criteria mentioned: wet weather performance in Houston.

Yokohama AVS dB 225/60/15 is a cost effective alternative (I think $70 each at tirerack) -- everyone who's used them has been pleased with wet performance. Yokohama AVS Intermediate is great in rain in warm weather, but those are discontinued... replacement AVS ES100 does not come in correct size for 15" rim.

Not many choices in 235/60/15 anymore.
