Hey everyone, I recently went back to the track to see what has changed. Well with the old turbo I was able to muster a 14.2 @ 96 mph with a 2.0 60ft. This was with the stock turbo spiking to around 15psi and falling off to around 12-13 pounds. So I changed the turbo and the manifold. At 8 psi I was able to pull off another 14.2 but this time at 99mph and with a craptastic 2.2 60 footer. I gained a good bit of top end with out loosing any low end, I just couldnt hook up for crap.

Also I was hittin cut out at around 14-15 psi with the old turbo and at about 11psi with the new turbo. So I found my old ka-e mafs and decided to swap it out.... Well no more 11psi cut-out, but I havent turned up the boost anymore, just to be safe. The only thing I can say bad about the ka-e maf is that for some reason, every once in a while, the idle will dip to around 500rpm and almost die, and when it does that Its hard to drive unless I rev it over 2k rpm and go from there (really smooth above 2.5-3krpm). One more thing, I found a decent sized leak after the turbo when I was fitting the new mafs, My gas mileage is awesome right now.

Two questions. 1-What kinda power is the ka-e mafs good for? Its a direct replacement for the sr20det mafs, I've seen people make around 230-240whp on their stock mafs. So i assume its close to that.

2- E-manage or Safc-II? I have downloaded the support tool already and have a laptop to tune it with. Either way Ill be using a wideband to tune with. So should I just settle for the safc (easier to set-up and use but less control) or go for the e-manage (16x16 fuel and timing maps, drop down MAF change menu, automatic fuel inj. correction)? Im shooting for around 280-300whp with the n60 mafs and eventually some 450's or 550's, Will the safc be able to compensate for up to that hp level without throwing timing off too much?

Thanks again guys -Jake

I don't know what an eManage runs $ wise, but I generally recommend having the ECU chipped for the mods (MAFS and injectors) and then fine tuning with the SAFC. Ofcourse the emanage is the better choice, but it depends on what kind of money you want to spend.

Yeah I want to get the ECU chipped but no one can do it... All I need is for an n60 mafs stock injectors and no speed limiter. C-rad was going to do it but it fell through. I'll give someone some $$$ if they can burn me a known good chip.

The e-manage can be had complete with all harnesses and tuning program for around $300-$350.

Might as well not limit your setup or hold back that turbo, go 450cc to match your t28 and n60, as commonly done.Seems folks dabble with the eprom stuff but perhaps not comfortable enough with tuning to sell a product that could damage your motor. In time I guess. Ever look into importing an aussie chip from a board user like ca510? or from Dr. Drift or Lumpy ?

Emanage looks good for now. Heck mambastu? on sxoc ran a T3 @23psi for almost 2 years using emanage on his ca18. Not sure if it was a virgin ca ecu tho. It may be all you could ever wnat.

check out rexs' "emange" sticky. I believe he runs 444s and rb20/maxi n60 afm.

what tires you use ?

you're off to a good start. Keep up the good work

Yea, the UK guys have got a good chip that they sell on eGhey IIRC that Sean (NeedCAforS13) seems to like very well. Horsham Developments or something like that. I certainly don't think running a chipped ECU adn an eManage would hurt anything.

Heard about horsham over on the sxoc boards. It seems to be ever so slightly gaining popularity over here as it seems I am hearing a few more people talk about him every week.

Try out sxoc.com and look up in the forums and S13 sections. The should have a sectioned taped off for horsham. Register and find out about it

They are pricey, but bulletproof. I will more than likely get one when I go for more power. But first, I will be replacing all these ancient rubber bushings in my suspension with some nice, shiny zero compliance spherical bearings (with adjustible rods attached of course )

rexhunta seems to be loving his e-Manage as well. I personally agree with Ryan...chipped ECU and fine tune with SAFC.

Thanks for the replies guys. I know about dr.drift and lumpy, also about h-dev and Norris Designs. The price of the chips kills me though. I've heard from sxoc.com that the $50 e-bay chips are copies of the norris designs stage 1 or of the h-dev. stage 2. But no one has actually confirmed it yet, but say it performs exactly the same. So I dunno. Maybe get one of those e-bay chips and a safc and see whate happends.

Either way no one makes and off the shelf tune for stock 370s with the n60 mafs. My main question is how do they offer chips that are good to 280bhp (250-260whp) that still use the stock MAFS. As I maxed out the stock MAFS at 185-190whp because of the fuel-cut? Do they just tune it based on rpm and tps?

thanks again guys

RalliartRsX- Im running some skinny 195-60-15 Bridgestone Potenza G009 They are actually pretty sticky but with only one gettin all the power, I get no traction.

Seriously, though ebay might be your best friend, with something as critical as engine management, I just cannot come to grips with ebay products. I am getting so fed up of buying used/off brand/ebay parts and having to deal with quality issues, people effing me over, etc. I am just going to go with something proven. Yeah, you do pay the price but you also pay for the amazing customer service, support, development and quality control.

I am just personally so fed up with dealing with idiots and I learning to just save up and get the real deal. I know you have heard it many times, but, I just felt like sprouting off.

Have you checked at enthalpy?? I know they do custome tunes for about 500 or so dollars. I am not sure how familiar they are with the CA ecu, but I am sure they can probably dig up something for ya. Plus, they are somewhat local .

Me personally, I think you should just go ahead and slap on some 550s Z32 Maf and requisite pump and FPR as taking chances in fuel system can be quiet critical to your engine life (and plus, its just looking ahead.) and its probably easier to get a tune for since its a popular setup

I talked to boost-boy about the same turbo you are running as I wanted to run that myself (but, I had to pay for school, new glasses, books, another 240, tags, insurance etc and that sucked my financies from that idea) and he said the stock fuel system should hold up fine with a nismo FPR set at around 40psi (turbo is good for 20 or so psi). Get into contact with him and see what he says. I spoke to him for a while and he helped me tons

P.S how much is one of those Horsham stage 1 or 2 chips going for now??

The chips are pretty expensive. like 180 for the stage one 220 for stage two and like 290 for stage three or something like that. Its pretty much for not being able to tune it. But then again I shouldnt have to tune it if thats what the chip is for.

I already have the walbro pump, just no regulator. Im shooting for around 280-300 whp. So I might say screw it and get the z32 MAFS and 444's along with the stage 3 chip. But thats atleast $250 for the chip about 100 for the MAFS and about 80-100 for injectors.... Looking at about $450-$500 for the chip injectors and mafs. BUt I already have the n60 mafs, but I guess I could sell that and put that money towards the N62 mafs.

Yea I would sell the N60 and buy a Z32. Its just personally preference. Also, I can find Z32 MAFs for around 100obo from my area so it all depends on how much you can both sell your N60 for and how much you can find a Z32 for.

Looking through Horshams site it seems the stage one is a nice basic setup. I would personally upgrade to a Z32, throw some dsm 450s (flow tested and cleaned) or some 550s and get a nice chip or enthalpy ecu upgrade. You already have an intercooler good for about 300bhp and all you need is a fpr. You should be well on your way with said mods

As for fine tuning with a SAFC, it seems to be a good idea. I am still researching, as you are, for a proper setup for CA in the future but I plan on running a Megasquirt or something with a chipped or enthalpy tuned ecu for the baseline. They are also gaining in popularity and it seems alot of auto-x and many other people use it (plus, there is an article right now in this months edition of Grassroots motorsports).

I can remember reading old sxoc threads when horsh was only discussing that its possible to ecu tune.I recall Noah? of freshalloy mentioning they (he and Enthalpy?) playing around with ecu tuning... ca18 was ~$150 I believe. This was a while back. Things have changed. Then you see what $100 dsm chips do and 10sec buick GNs fly with their $125 ecu chips. With burners scattered all about the place, you know its only a matter of time before some enterprising young gun decides to turn a buck and starts spitting out copies to plug up that hole in the market left by folks looking for a cheaper solution. It could even be the original chip tuner using another source to dump the "less expensive" chips, so he has that market covered also. Its not an uncommon business practice.... if anybody is cashing in on copies of my chip, it may as well be me

N60 seems like a good match for 450s and a t28.... especially if they all max out around the same time. Sell it as a package if/when you outgrow it

Next step up would be N62 + 720s + 400hp turbo I imagine

ive got a stand alone to go on whenever i can find the time, so when that time comes ill have a safcII, n62 maf, tuned ecu, etc. for sale. ive just recently gotten it running very well using this setup (i can rev it out and its very, very fast up there), but i want to be able to control everything. im tired of it running crappily. now there shouldnt be much it can throw at me that i cant fix with a laptop.

r34 gtr- what standalone are you gunna be using? Also what size injectors is the ecu tuned for? And what do you mean by running crappily?

dash- The reason I wanted to get the n60 mafs and use it was because its good to about 320whp. Along with some 450's with a little bit higher pressure from the walbro pump My set-up will be maxed out around 320whp, But im only shooting for around 280whp To be on the safe side. I may also set-up some sort of i/c mister (h20 or n20) to help intake temps during the summer.

What I would really like to do is to get the horsham stage 3 chip with 440's and the z32 afm but again thats like $500 or so bucks and for that kinda money +-$100 I could have an e-manage using the pressure sensor (over rides the MAFS at a preset voltage clamp (5 volts) ) And that would include me installing it, a wideband, and tuning. I just dont want to go through the hassle of wiring in the emanage (not that it scares me, Im just lazy, unless I get a wild hair up my a** and feel like doin it) and using a lap-top to tune it with, along with learning what all the values mean.

IIRC- jdmsil80 went from the powerFC to the horsham stage 3 chip and said the chip was much better and he made right at 289whp which I would be more then happy with.
