I can get Nismo forged racing pistons, but no rings to match. :rolleyes What kind of buildups did you guys use?

Im getting ready to tear down and rebuild my extra KA24DE I have, and prolly turbo it.

Well, you need to decide if your going turbo or not. If you decide to go turbo your going to want lower CR pistons. If you stay NA your going to want higher CR.

How much are the Nismo pistons? I think Ross makes some of the nicest forged pistons I've seen...personally I like them better than JE.

I think in the ballpark of 250 each for the "RACING" pistons :(

Who's got a built up KA-T that wouldn't mind me pickin their brain on AIM or somethin?

I'm down with CP or Ross pistons too, You can actually use the eagle rods for a 300zx with some slight modifications if I remember correctly. Good luck dealing with Eagle though, from what I understand they are troublesome and pretty much refuse to make a custom set of KA rods, I know this because I wanted to get some and IAP just gave up dealing with Eagle altogether in favor of Pauter which is probably a better rod anyway albeit much more expensive. Oh yeah...and that price for nismo pistons is ridiculous, you'd be much better served with a different aftermarket piston set.

I prefer Ross pistons ten times over CP or Wiseco. I've seen Wiseco pistons be 30 grams heavier on one piston compared to the rest of the set. Seems like some very important steps in finishing/quality control are missing there.

At $489 a complete set including Chrome/Steel (the best) rings, the Ross pistons are a no brainer.

30 grams??? that's just nuts. The Ross pistons are all within 2.5 of each other but I will STILL be having them zeroed out to the same weight, I cant imagine a 30 gram difference.

Ross says 2.5 grams within the set, but I've sold many of their sets (and still do), and I have yet to see a set be more than 1.5 grams off balance. 95% of them come balanced to 1 gram within the set, and some even have a perfect balance.

Hmm, I knew they wouldn't be MORE than 2.5 off, I'll be curious to see how close they are when they go to the machine shop. It almost makes me want to go steal the scale at the kroger deli to see how close they are...

where is that price for ross pistons with rings for 489? I know that raceeng sells their wiseco pistons with rings for around that....thats a really good deal.as far as rods go, from what I've seen eagle isn't the best brand anyway, but they are a notch up over stock and there is just no way I can afford 600 dollar rods anytime soon. I've heard the stock ones aren't too bad as long as you don't go revving to hell and back.

damn dude I didn't realize that they offered rings included for that price. That is a pretty good deal.I haven't emailed them but do they also offer standard bore? Its easier to get my cyl's honed with stock bore.

Yes, 30 grams. Those were my pistons....... I'll never get wiseco's again. I love my Ross'/Crower combo. :D

Pauter and Crower are both excellent rods. Crower rates theirs at 750HP (for the KA rods), while Pauter rates theirs at 800+ HP. I don't know of anyone who's done independent side-by-side comparizons to prove who's better.

Crower uses an "I" beam design. Pauter uses an "X" beam design. I personally like Pauter's "X" beam design better because of the less drag it will encounter when cutting through the oil (specially at high RPMs). This feature is naturally inherited by its design.

Stay away from Eagle...for that you might as well use your stock rods. I'd trust them more.

Oversized is better. You could't fit a similar sized forged piston into your stock cylinder bore anyway, because forged pistons need more piston-to-wall clearance than the stock cast pistons. Clearance on forged pistons are around 0.004" (low-silicon forging), and as little as 0.0008" to 0.001" for cast pistons (stock). Plus, you get a little extra displacement with oversized pistons... :D

that is an excellent combo. pauter rods is one of the best rods you could get.
