Nice day outside. 50F+.

Walking into a fabric store with a pink shirt on after parking a little convertible... it just looks wrong. The only other man in the store was a gay guy, and he made it obvious.

Bought some black vinyl, upholstery glue, and padding material. Half off! Got it all for $15.

My door panel inserts were falling apart.

Installed a cupholder last night. The angle makes it impossible to fit a "small" drink.

Removed the twenty year-old fabric.

Attached the padding with E6000 glue.

Doggy didn't care for the upholstery glue smell.

Also used 3M outdoor mounting tape and a Boston Swingline stapler to attach the vinyl.

Finished product. I had to cut a slit for the door latch and handle.

Done!

Looks better than before but needs refinement. I need to tuck in the edges and pull the vinyl tighter.

Let's see if I got this right. You showed up to a Fabric store in a convertible Saab wearing a pink shirt and managed to get 50% off what you bought from the nice man serving you ...hmmm...is there any more to this story Jesda lol

In all seriousness, nice job. Once you tighten it up I think it will look great. Well done!

Btw Are you really bothered if you cup holder doesn't hold small drinks. You always seem to have the larger ones anyway .

Oh, he was actually a customer, and he was "thooo exthited" about his purchase. Oddly enough, he was also getting black vinyl and padding.

use a heat gun on the vinyl, it'll let you stretch it around the corners. buy some spray adhesive too...it's messy, but it'll help get rid of the baggy look. you wanna try to pull the material around the corners first, it usually makes it easier to keep from getting wrinkles in it.

buy one of these, it'll make trimming much easier.

I'd suggest getting the pink one to match your shirt.

it's fairly often we get to pull vinyl or leather around parts like that on the buses....you learn tricks and better methods along the way.

Good bit of DIY. I always thought you just sat around all day eating bacon and making rude comments.

BWA HA it was a sunny 72F outside here in the South! Bask in my deliciously perfect weather!

I'm not even going to discuss your very unmanly trip to the fabric store. Did you at least tell everyone it was for your elderly grandmother, so as to maintain your heterosexuality?

In the past the women at the store would say, "So is this for your boat?" while grinning, like at a man who walked in on a tupperware party. Now they don't even bother. They just assume every guy in the shop is a bowl of fruit.
