So i went through a big *** puddle yesterday...more of a raging river across the road doing a pretty decent speed.

The truck stalled half way through, and then i couldnt get her started for a bit. She sputtered and backfired

Finally I got it going, went to school. Backfired a bit when i gave her gas, but then half way to school she settled out.

Got out of school, went home...made it 1/4 of the way and the RPM gauge stopped working...it went crazy and then dropped.

Then i kept going..made it half way home...and she sputtred and shutoff. We couldn't get her going again.

Now, i have replaced distributor cap...rotor...and plug wires. Also exhaust plugs (it has both intake and exhaust plugs)

I can get it started once and a while, but she will run for about a minute or so and then just shut off. It will run good, still sputter on throttle, but then just plain jane shut off.

Any ideas? Maybe the coils?

Is it sucking water? Water can puddle up in the factory airbox.

Nope, everything looks good! I popped the filter off right away to check it out. No water or moisture

Wet distributor cap and probably wet electronics inside. The vent cap probably got a bit wet and sucked in some moisture.

Get your self some electrical contact cleaner and spray the cap and let it air dry.

DON'T SPRAY THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE DISTRIBUTOR BELOW THE CONTACT ROTOR.

If you have a blow drier you can blow warm air in the cavity to dry it out. Don't use a blow gun as this just makes a mess and won't dry it out as effectively. It needs a flow of warm air to dry it out properly.

You may also have some spark plug and/or wire damage. Cold water splashing on a hot spark plug has been known to make the ceramic coating crack. Check them all!

Some tests today...

Coils are giving off 12.2volts...so there goodNow...the problem lies in the distributor.

I know the distributor is getting the power...but the plugs are not. It's a no go on spark.

So that leads me to believe my distributor got boned...hard...in the butt...by water?

Water has a nasty habit of making the electronic module inside the distributor go poof!

The distributor is also a NON-serviceable part so the entire unit needs to be replaced if any part of it has gone bad.

Yeah, thats what i was afraid of

They want like 200 bucks for a new distributor...quite frankly i paid only a little more then that for the whole truck!(300 bucks) So I'm going to call junk yards tomorrow and hope for the best!

If not, il still buy a new distributor...just because i love my nissan truck!but the next one WILL be sealed completely.

The distributor makes sense because the RPM gauge isn't working.

replaced the distributor today...still nothing.

checked the wires from the module in the dist. all seem good.

Checked the volts from the coils again.

when key is in 'on' positionIntake coil: 12.2Exhaust coil: 12.2

When crankingIntake coil: 10.7ishExhaust: 7, 12, 17, 14 etc etc. It jumps all over the place

Now we are replacing the coils.

we have spark from one of the ignition coils, however, the other ignition coil has none. We are thinking that it has to be the amp/transistor before the coil. The coil itself is good, as even when we swap it with a brand new one it still does not work.

can anyone shed some light? I'd hate to spend another $xxx on the truck if not needed! I'm already way up there!

I believe theres also a relay connected somewhere in there before the ignitor. Is there an ignitor for each coil on your truck? I would think theres only one but I am not positive when it comes to the napz trucks. I find it easiest to pull the dizzy when diagnosing engine problems rather than cranking the engine itself. Makes it easier to do yourself, just make sure you pull the fuel pump fuse first or else the injectors will just dump gas into the engine. peace.
