Found a 240 in Tucson on AutoTrader. White 92 droptop with 107K for $2800.

Called the guy, says it's in great shape but needs a new top. No biggie. I drive 2 hours to see it.

Unfortunately, it has some body damage on the passenger rear quarter panel (like the side of the car hit a pole) and it really needs a paint job (mismatched and scratched).

Otherwise, not too horrible.

PROS: Mileage, engine sounds smooth, new Yokohamas, no modifications, spoiler OK, seats intact, interior fair, all power stuff (windows, top, headlights) works.

CONS: Cracked dash, broken plastic header piece at the top of the windshield, trunk struts weak, engine filthy, needs bodywork and paint.

I wouldn't spend $2800. Maybe if it's still for sale in a couple weeks I'll offer $1800 and take on the extra work.

Any thoughts?

Dash is a no biggie to get ahold of. The plastic header will be a PITA to get ahold of for a fair price. Everything Nissan may have it, but being a convertible only piece, it may be high in price. The struts in the rear are a PITA to get at due to the rear seat support design. The seatbelt tensioner prevents you getting a ratchet in there. You're best bet is a box end, or better yet, a ratcheting box end.

The rear quarter may also be a PITA to get fixed. Depending on it's location, it'll probably need to be cut out and have a new peice of sheet metal welded in place of it.

I'd wait to try and get a better price on it. 2800 sounds like too much for a car that needs that much work to be put into it

Ain't no way I'm dropping $5K on one...

Hell, the one on ebay with 300hp (SR-swapped 'vert) is only $7500.

2800. Not worth that much to me. I am the kind, that would sooner buy one with a blowed motor, than a dented up QP.

That's what I'm thinking.

I don't mind having one repainted, but the dents are a problem for me.

I have a cheap mechanic, I don't have a cheap bodyshop.

the kelley blue book valus of a 92 vert in "good" cobdition is $3,345. I would place this car is "fair" making it worth $2,850.

doesnt seem like a fair price for a car that needs to work that this one needs.

UPDATE - Looked at another one today.

A white 93 with 110K. Engine is spotless, perfect compression, new tires and brakes, clean bill of health from the dealer (mechanically), and the body is flawless.

Needs a dash (cracked), door panels (do ALL S13 door panels SUCK?), a 'vert top motor (it runs but leaks), both rear quarter windows are off the tracks, trunk struts, new seat upholstery (any good looking covers?), a radio, some trim bits, and lots of buttons / switches (disappointing interior quality on these cars).

If I can get it for $3500, is it a good deal? Or should I hold out for better?

Eager to hear from you guys!

The S13 door panels don't seem to hold up well, and the interior in general doesn't either; it was an economy sports car, certainly not the Infiniti that you're used to. ;-) It won't look the best, but in general, even though it wears in looks, the functionality tends to last quite a while. The good news (with a bitter twist) is that there are tons of totalled 240's out there for you to grab parts from awfully cheaply. So buy one . . . :-)

Oh, and on price . . . I'd offer $2500-2700 or so, you can always go up on an offer, but never down (obviously) . . . can't hurt to find out how cheaply you can join the 240 side of the club, officially of course.

Greg, I don't have your phone number anymore. I deleted the emails with all that in it to free some account space up on hotmail.

If there is ANY damage to a door panel on a vert, take that into big consideration. The interior door panel from the dealership costs $895 per door. I think everythingnissan.com has them for a little over $600 a piece. As for the whole door, I don't think you can find one for a decent price anymore. The B-pillar was integrated into the design of the door, making it a very hard find. BoyWonder (Zach) is going through a door replacement right now. He banged up his passenger door on accident and had to replace it with a base model door. So now he's looking a roll bar to add a harness in so he can have some restraint system for his passenger.

3500 is too much considering how much is wrong with it. Go to everything nissan and price out parts for it and you'll see how expensive it gets to fix the motor. For the quarter windows, they come as whole units I believe. I have yet to find them sold in individual parts, and everythingnissan doesn't even carry them period. I believe someone priced them at the dealership at $260 per unit? The trunk struts are also a unit only for the vert. The hatch struts are the wrong length.

I have seat covers on my car that I picked up from wal-mart (or was it advance auto?) that look pretty good. The fitment could be a bit better, but the covers themselves blend into the interior theme pretty well (light grey on dark grey). I'll get some pictures taken today to show you what they look like.

As for the other interior bits (dash, buttons (except for the top up/down, and the QW button) should be cheap to get since they are the same as the coupe's.

Personally with all the interior damage that would need to be fixed/replaced I would offer barely $2000 for it, and I'm being generous on that.

Oh, and I just checked my email and got the one you sent me. CALL ME BACK!
