I'm back in another Nissan, is probably a good start. Not quite sure where to post this but after selling all of my project cars, I figured I'm old and mature enough to just buy something reliable to get to-from work. The only standards was it had to be a.) good on gas mileage w/ manual b.) Easy to maintain. c.) No aftermarket support..
So, I picked this 2015 Note S up and enjoyed my boring commutes for a few years. Then, my dumbass decided to visit Japan, where I ended up staying for 2½ months. These things were everywhere and well, this is where we are today..fml.

*note* this post to meant to be more informative than anything else. Since absolutely NOBODY supports these chassis (besides what you find on Ebay), I'm free-balling here and learning as I go. I will say that is is absolutely THEE worst car in my experience of owning vehicles to try and modify. With that said, there is hope for idiots like me..

Full Nismo bodykit with all the lights was sourced from a few UpGarage's when I was over there. Probably around $750 for everything. Just had them shipped before I left. Also, found a full set of O.G. 17x7 +45 Cr Kai when I was over there for $300.

Next was getting the kit resprayed and installed as well as a set of BC coilovers. I didnt realized until after the fact that Ohlins were available for this platform. Oh well..

I found somebody local selling some aluminum z32 280mm front calipers and bit the bullet. Figured Id have to at least get a bracket made. Turns out, I didnt. They bolt right up to the oem n17/e12 knuckles. Only thing I had to do was take them to a machine shop and have them take .195" off the backspacing to line them up correctly. Rotors are a different story. I went through a handful of new and used ones before coming across the Renault Twingo 133rs rotors. Not only are they 280mm and 4x100 but they have a 60.1 center bore so they were perfect. Downside is, I had to order them from KamRacing in the U.K.

I dont know what happened to my baseline dyno sheet but in complete stock form, car made 92whp/91trq on 87oct. Tuning experience overall was a SOB. I tried getting in contact a handful tuning companies and thought UpRev would be able to help out. Picked up the hardware and sent them the stock file but after 2 years of follow up, they were not interested. I was then told by a good friend that HPtuners could possibly work. So figured what the hell. Called around few local shops and came across Sound Performance. Spoke with the tuner and he said to just swing by and he will take a look. I used the HPtuners Canadian Micra hr16de file and viola, it worked. Full parameters are now accessible. Great!

I then pick up a Eaton TVSv400 blower off of the 1.2ddr engine. Figured this was the way to go since I auto-x the car. It didnt fit without removing a/c and would contact the inlet manifold. So, I started piecing together a turbo kit instead and after many months doing research on volumetric efficiency, I landed on this Garrett gt2052 unit. Ntec extra box w/velocity stack installed, HKS axleback, and had a custom 2 1/4 midpipe. I took it back to the dyno on 91-ish oct (filled halfway with 93 and now a now clogged primary cat, mind you) and it made 105whp/104trq. I didnt have time to change it out as I booked an appointment for dyno. Fuel cut was raised to 7200rpm because I was running out of gear at events. Also, rev limiter was thrown in. I was still running 2 oem cats, resonator and 2 mufflers at the time. I have now installed a vibrant hi-flow cat and deleted the secondary and its definitely much more quick. If I had to guess, its currently sitting around ~115whp with this cold weather.

Next I picked up a ORC clutch w/10lb flywheel and since I hate wheel spin, grabbed a Nismo 1way LSD for the car. BTW, Hptuners showed that injector duty cycle was at 63% but didnt show numbers on fuel pump. Worst case scenario, Ill try and figure out a in tank solution with a return feed if need be.

Everything else is self explanatory. Complete set of Spoon rigid collars, Ntec urethane shifter bushing, FeelGood top hat mounts, Cobra Suzuka Pro bucket seat sitting on a Bride slider.

After taking out the transmission to install the ORC kit and lsd, clutch fit fine but LSD was not compatible with the USDM 5mt. I guess its my fault for assuming the Nismo hr16de and Usdm hr16de shared the same 5mt. Turns out 1st, 3rd, and 5th are shorter. FDR is different as is the cut on the gears. So I contacted Jesse Street who is a jdm broker and purchased a transmission from a Nismo model. I believe it was around $900 all in. So thats whats going on at the moment. Car is officially out of my hands for the next few weeks as the turbo work and lsd install is getting done as well as the new transmission. I will most likely going to be using a 350z MAF and tuning strictly 93oct. Flex fuel can maybe come down the line if I can find something compatible.

Here are two weak dyno pulls of the last few runs before the car started bogging down due to the clogged cat.

Little update.

LSD finally installed with the Nismo 5m/t transmission.
So, turbo install has commenced. This is the intercooler and size I went with. No cutting required. Just made some brackets for it. Final turbo positioning should be completed today and starting on some of the piping as well.
Since this is pretty much uncharted territory, I will be facing any issues head on. I will be sure to try and document all the hick ups along the way.

Car is complete and home now. Timing did not exactly work out. Fabrication took less time than trying to book a window at the tuner. I guess they are both that good. Custom fabrication work (minus the parts I purchased) $2600 for labor, piping, misc. they had at the shop. My parts list totaled (id have to double check exact number) $1300. Not including Nismo LSD and shorter geared Nismo transmission. I only needed this particular transmission to fit the LSD. You could literally cut your parts list in more than half with not going with high-end.
The only unfortunate thing is that I still have to tune it via MAF (one from a vq35de) as opposed to MAP. Since HPtuners is the only available software I have confirmed with this platform, Ill take what I can get.

Next update will be with dyno numbers and maybe a video.

Not sure who is still interested in anything Versa related anymore but ive already put about 1300 miles on the setup so far. 6 autox events 3 dyno sessions and 500 miles trip. Compression test is good. Leak down test is within 3% across the board. Bore scope was good and engine oil was normal. On 8psi (stock wastegate) car put down 186whp/187wtrq on 93oct. Still running a PLM hi-flo cat and tiny 2¼ exhaust. We pushed the absolute piss out of the oem multi-port fuel system (for science). Next step is to send out the oem injectors to get modified at FIC in Florida from 360cc (180cc ea.) per cylinder to 400cc. Doubt we can push more than that. Trying to get to 10psi.
As far as the Nismo lsd goes, it did not fit on the usdm 5mt. So, I purchased a Nismo close ratio transmission for it. Stock usdm 5mt was 4.09 and the Nismo close ratio transmission is 4.21. It kind of rips. The limiting factor now is the 215 tires. I believe I can achieve the 200whp mark by simply removing the cat but Ill enjoy the car as is till fall. Also, no point of doing exhaust work and take it back to dyno if my Nismo intake manifold is not put on first.

Sweet build. This very much reminds me of the Japanese hot-rodding that was going on when I was growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s... a bunch of stuff wasn't really readily available but you figure stuff out on your own to make things from different platforms work.
Could you potentially just increase your fuel pressure a bit to get the extra PSI or 2 out of the system to hit your goals? You could also add some meth or E85 injection at the throttle body to give yourself a little head room.

Holy legit build, Batman!

A couple thoughts: I'm thinking you could simply relace the in-tank pump with a Walbro 255 (since it has a return system).

Also: UpRev sucks all day long. Those clowns cost me a car in 2007, and I'm still pissed about it. You dodged a bullet.

I'm gonna share this one on FB - Love it when someone builds something awesome with an overlooked platform!

Update. Sent out the oem Denso injectors to FIC for modification. They went from 209 to ~600cc then popped them back in. Also added a Nismo intake manifold i found online. Car is complete. Unless I swap my 2¼ exhaust over to a 2.75 and de-cat it or run meth injection/e85, its fine for now. Car makes 240whp/227wtrq on only a 55% duty cycle on injectors. Even with the Nismo lsd and 225 r comps, its struggling for any type of traction unless im at the top of 4th gear. Also, the torque steer is obnoxious. This was tuned on 93oct as well so I can probably get some more out of it running 100oct or more. I've also included the previous dyno numbers as well. Exterior wise, ive installed a set of NTEC fender extractors to help alleviate some under hood temps and painted them black.

Buddy 3d printed a Greddy Profec mount to pop into the pre-existing hvac ducts. Needs another revision but its pretty good.
