Seems like I will be having to locate a used transmission soon. Was running about 3/4 throttle and about 5,500 rpm, shifting from 3rd to 4th and suddenly had a flare and an RPM spike to 7,000. Felt just like the trans went into neutral. Driving easy, it shifts normal. I can even put good power to it in 4th gear as long as its not upshifting it holds fine. The death of the current trans is iminate though. It is doomed and its failure is on the horizon. Talked with Pat this morning at Level 10. When I swap in the used trans, I will send out my valve body to him for modification and install it in the used trans.

On a side note it was in the 50s here today and the car was running like a MONSTER.

Is your car stock? Seems unfortunate if it can't handle the engine it was coupled with... What do they make it out of, cheese?

Its not stock and has about 100K of hard miles on it. The trans was also neglected until I picked up the car.

That makes more sense. Still unfortunate for you though. Have you looked into used ones yet? What do they go for?

I found one with 68K on it for $2K, ran the VIN# for it and my car and they have the same OEM part number. The other car is one month newer. Hit pretty hard in the rear.

How much is the modified valve body and what's level 10? How will this new valve body make the car drive once installed? I ask because I think my trans will follow suit in the near future..

It is 1G give or take a little.

Level 10 is a performance transmission company out of New Jersey. Builds these transmissions often for customers in the middle east as well as the lighter duty 370Z/G37 trans for boosted applications.

I also found out I can use a QX56 trans in the M56 by simply swapping out the manual shaft to put the shift lever on the correct side and swapping or possibly reprogramming the TCM. I may actually see what happens with the truck TCM programming if I go that route. In theory if the truck TCM plays nice with the M56 it means I could swap the 3.36 gear differential from the M37 in my car and it would shift properly.

Would the new rear end gear make for little rear tire traction? Or at least even less traction? :)

Yes but my intention is 305/35R20s in the back and they should hook pretty well regardless. At that point my worry would be the rubber drive shaft coupling and the CV half shafts.

You can get a M37 center section for about $300-500 used and it has 3.36 gears. The same ratio as the QX56.

Spoke to level 10, they recommended that I send them my transmission valve body and my uprev file. I was informed that the modified valve body they sell and a few tweaks to the uprev file and my cars shifting and shift points will improve nicely. Espescially with the type of "spirited" driving I practice.

Good stuff. I see you're in H-town as well. Let me know when you get it all back in the M, maybe we can meet up.

I realize this is an old thread, but how were the results from Level 10?
