Well, I just got back from visiting a salvage yard.

So I needed a drivers side inner fender shield because the previous owner decided that by cutting it up it would get more air to the engine. Since I just put in my cold air intake I don't want water to be sucked up into my engine. I was also able to find a 5 speed transmission for $250 with a 90 day warranty, and I found a 300zx LSD for $250.

I thought it was a fairly good price, although I need to pick up the other parts aswell.

Mmmmmmm five speed.

Too me the transmission seems high. Not seen to many 300z diffs in 240s. But good for searching around junkyard, that's always fun.

Which 300zx lsd did you get? I hear some horror stories about folks who dont get the proper parts...

Good price on the diff, bad price on the transmission. I pay exactly half here.

Yes, I already know about the different gearing on the 300zx TT and yes I know I need different output shafts.

Wrong! You can make a R180 diffy off a Z31 work for your 240 if you want to.

Its a secret closely guarded by us oompaloompas though. You must say the secret word to unlock the mystery...

Is the secret word "Huh?". Because I haven't picked up the differential yet so I was thinking of going with the 95'-96' J30 LSD. Seeing how it's practically a bolt-on deal.

People with questions about installing an LSD can refer to

Yeah I have to dig it up, next post I promise...As for the J30 diff, I like it, but I think a Z32 N/A diff would be better. The gear ratio kinda kills the accelleration IMO because I cant feel the same push into my seat I used to feel before it...

You can take the clutch type internals out of a z31 300zx turbo years 84-87 and put them inside your open differential R200 housing. Its a little different than a viscous setup but around here different is good!

Didn't know Z31 came with R180 diff, thought they all had R200 and the later Z31 turbos had clutch type LSD.
