, After doing a ton of work on my newly aquired Q (injectors, plenum hose job, starter, 2 rocker arms, valve cover reseal, coil pack, brakes, fuel pump and ecu, NICO Ecu, 1st gear start TCU, etc) It had been running sweet for the last week. Well today it decided to empty its bottom end on the interstate. It sure was awesome, there are some random internal parts sticking out of the oil pan. My question is where is the best place to get a used motor for it? It is a 90 standard car.

If it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all. Sorry about your engine.

Difficult to believe all that work was done and the guides ignored.

The guides were actually the next thing on the list. I wanted to see if the replaced rocker arms would fix the rough running condition before I did the guides. I have all the parts and was probably hoping to start on them next weekend. I do not believe they were the culprit as it developed some serious rod knock right before it punched a hole in the block. So where is the best place to source a good used motor?

Sorry to hear about your Q. I'll recommend NAD here in Atlanta... they are a supplier of JDM units. I've had a good experience buying a transmission and the mechanics I've spoken with say they have never received a bad motor from them. Not sure how far away this is for you but it might be worth the trip.

Why guides are always done first on a 1990-1993. Although in your case it may have been lower end damage from extended OCI. Why Infiniti Dealer Performed Service History and other service receipts are always obtained first before even looking at any car.

Be sure to read Q45tech's posts on how to select and rehabilitate a VH45DE to avoid a repeat.

NAD web site shows a Q engine for $1000 [pickedup].Just do the guides on the newer engine and all hoses and knock sensors and harness. Pull the fuel rail and replace all fuel hoses and test and look at injectors.............replace gaskets and oring everywhere, reseal valve covers and new plugs................finally swap exhaust manifolds with your domestic engine.

Simple takes a full long day by an expert tech with engine on a stand.

One must read all of Q45tech's posts eventually.

Also, you must preselect the best one.

Bring your LED penlight and a compression gauge and large socket for the crank.

Could be for the better... At least you have a bunch of new parts to swap onto the new motor... It is kinda nice to be able to easily do everything at once and then not worry about a thing for 60k miles. Just be glad you can get FRESH Q motors for as cheap as you can!

Thats true. Plus I have everything new that Q45tech suiggested putting on my new motor. ALthough I wish it would have blown up when I first bought it. If anybody recalls this is the motor that had two rocker arms busted on the passenger side head. While replacing those one of teh cam cap bolts broke off and gave me all kinds of troble getting it drilled out etc. The broken rockers were a result of the previous owners mechanic dropping a squeeze clap into one of the valve seats and lodging it in there. Car sounded good once everything was back together. At least I hadn't put new the new plugs in it so those will be brand new on the next motor. And the high pressure P/S line is less that 2 days old. I bought it from Joe and had it next day aired in to Tennessee so I could get the Q on the road again.

Can she be repaired or will you end up with a salvaged title? Sorry for the second time.

I've definitely seen that car around town before when I lived in Knoxville. What part are you in?
