I WANT TO BUILD A PURE RACE CAR (NOT EVER FOR STREET). I'M LOOKING FOR ABOUT 300WHP WITH A SMOOTH POWER RAMP AND A WIDE POWER BAND. I'M LOOKING AT EITHER KA OR SR FOR THE POWER PLANT. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS WHICH SHOULD I PICK AND WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET CLOSE TO MY POWER OUTPUT ON A BUDGET.

MY GOAL FOR THE CAR IS A LOW BUDGET PERFORMER DESIGNED FOR TRACK USE ONLY. IT'S GOING TO USE RACE GAS OR LEADED GAS, AND I'M GOING STANDALONE WITH IT TO GET RID OF THE O2 SENSORS.

I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS.

Budget=KA-T

For 300hp I'd get some forged pistons just to be sure(stock rods are fine) and I'd get a Disco Potato. It'll spool up really quick, and have great boost response. Well that's what I'm gonna do for my KA anyway.

Or you could get a L28et and rebuild it, or get a small block or something, but since weight seems like a priority, I'd go KA.

I HAVE A V8 Z... I WANT TO GO 2100LBS CURB WEIGHT OR LESS.

I'M ALL OVER HYBRID Z ALREADY BUT THE CONSENSUS THERE IS THE KA ISN'T WORTH IT.

Keep it street legal! They are so much fun. They do real well in the auto X also with much less HP than you are going for.

whay bother with the work of swapping in the KA when the L28ET is a bolt in seeing as it's the same external castings as your stock L24, and you don't even have to crack it open or get the stand alone to hit the 300hp mark, you'll be maxing out the stock injectors, turbo and ECU, but with a FMIC, AFPR and a boost controller your there

and the pistons tend to give up at around 400hp

You can build a full race N/A L24 that will easily get to 300whp. The thing can rev much higher than a KA.

EDIT: bore is 83mm, stroke is 73mm. The engine has awesome potential. The limiting factor for RPMs is the head. just do some valvetrain work, put on better carbs, and it should be able to make peak power much, much higher.

[QUOTE=PROJECTRB240SX], AND I'M GOING STANDALONE WITH IT TO GET RID OF THE O2 SENSORS.

QUOTE]what kind of stand alone does not use an O2 sensor!? every system I've seen uses one, it gives the managmanet system feedback as to how it's doing so it can autocorrect

also if you got a 240z they didn't come with O2 sensors, did you already have an engine in mind?

revving to 8k stock is really quite good. It doesn't breathe anywhere near that high, but that can be fixed. A race cam and some bigger carbs would allow it to breathe up there, and with an uber valvetrain/forged rods and pistons you could have it spinning at around 10k easily.

Also, everyone knows that SAFCs are awesome with carburetors

MICROTECHS DON'T REQUIRE THE USE OF O2 SENSORS....

THIS PROJECT IS ON HOLD UNTIL THE 280 SBC IS COMPLETED.

get a 90-95 Q45 V8. Around 300 hp with plenty of torque. Lighter than the stock inline 6 I believe. If I'm not mistaken the engine mounts are very close to matching the distance apart of the Z mounts. I've read that the TT 5 speed will bolt up to it as well. Variable valve timing & the bottem ends are built for abuse. Worth checking out at least.

I'VE ALREADY GOT A V8 Z.... I HAVE TO GIVE UP THE PROJECT BECAUSE I HAVE TO MUCH ON MY PLATE AT THE MOMENT..... SO I'M GOING TO SEE IF SOMEONE ELSE WANTS THE CARS.
