This morning I am sending my 06 M35 to the dealer to see what the issue is that I have been having for months now. First... wouldn't start, then horn....then wipers...both continuously running , I don't have enough characters or time to list everything!!!! LMAO!!!!! But today I am having the dealer check it and let me know what's going on. Luckily and Thank God it is not my primary source of transportation. I posted about this back in late August I think. It only has 89k on the clock so it is fairly fresh and is a dream.....when it is running.....LOL!!!!! Well anyway, I will keep you guys posted and Happy New Year to All!!!!!!

Yikes, that's one way to stumble into the new year!

Well, the IPDM is probably a good place to start. You can buy a used one online and swap it out to try. It is located behind your battery.
No programming needed.

ouch! Doing these repairs yourself with used parts should certainly get things below 2k or better id have to think.

i think i still have my 06 engine harness from the engine swap. also i suggest source ebay or local junkyard since the car is old enough there will be donors around. Good luck

P.S - you can always let it go for cheap/parts out if you do not want to deal with the headaches!

Thanks for that advice, Im going to exercise my options and see what is best. Over the past days it went from a verbal quote of 4800.00 down to a written quote of 3627.80 + taxes and shop fee (whatever the hell shop fee is!). But anyway, I might be reaching out to you for that engine harness and I'm not afraid at all to get my hands dirty and do the work myself if need be. I just can't see paying more than 2k maybe 2,500.00 or so but anything else. Not happening. Besides I bought it used and still owe a pretty penny on it. It is in amazing shape, so much that the dealer said "well we can put you in something else if you want to let it go!"....that there raised my eyebrow...(.mister dealer you played your hand). Only 90k miles on the clock. I will keep you all updated.

I think the risk is very low in buying a used IPDM off eBay. Way below the $2,000-$2,500 budget you have set.

That had been suggested in the prior discussions. If I may ask; are you skeptical about that being the solution, or why haven't you tried to do it since it was first brought up?

I didnt want to go on a so called witch hunt so I sent to the dealer to get the exact reason for the issues Ive been having. I have done some research and the BCM,ECM and IPDM have come up in other post but I wanted to precisely what I was dealing with. Never the engine harness though....that was new to me.

Fair enough. I have taken my cars in when I was completely stumped and needed their diagnostic tool.

But then the dealership tries to take you to the cleaners. I don't see how the engine harness has anything to do with those electrical accessory issues, but if you were to have them do the job, then the numbers partly make sense (You can counter their written offer with your own offer as well)
The labor charges are ridiculous. I don't know where they get their $2190 from. Estimating $140 per hour, that's approximately 15 hours of labor. I can do all the work they recommended in way under 3 hours being gentle and deliberate.

What I'd do is replace only the IPDM to start. Whether a new one or ideally a used one for troubleshooting purposes.
I can't volunteer other forum members to go out of their way for others, but if you were in the St. Louis area, I would switch IPDMs with you so you don't have to spend unnecessary money on parts.

I agree with Ed, start with the IPDM. That thing does a LOT in our cars. As does the BCM (but that requires a program if you put another one in if I recall).

Thanks Ed, I greatly appreciate your input. I was looking at the labor cost as well, that was my first target to attack. 15 hours?..... I guess my vehicle is giving birth huh? LOL!!!!!!!! I will be having a serious discussion with the dealer in the morning. Im located in the Maryland,DC,Va area. I will check ebay for the parts.

Yesterday I received an email revision with adjustment of the charges, the grand total now is $3,620.09. Still to rich for this blood. So now the "tug-o-war" begins. Lol!!!!!
