So I decide to program the new Escort 9500i today to lock out the false alarms from a local grocery store....some ancient man in a newer grand marquee (sp?) backs into me....Hes old, but nice car, nicely dressed and I ask him to pull out of the way and we'll exchange insurance info...long story short, the Bastard drives off and I only have 1/2 of his license plate number....

I live in a small enough town that I'll run across him at some point though, but the $500 deductable is sure going to suck having to pay. I did have the police come out and file a report..

Rant over.

bummer man. hopefully the cops will invest a little bit of time on this. A partial plate can still a great way to track a vehicle down, especially when the location can be narrowed down and the type of vehicle.

I dont think the cops really care. I thought about chasing him down but by the time the witnesses and I realized he was bailing, traffic was bad.

My daughter had begged and begged to take our new (at the time) Maxima for an errand instead of her Sentra. Normally we said no, but we gave in and let her. About an hour later we get a call from her crying. Seems some A hole had backed into the side of the car while it was in the parking lot and then took off. No witnesses.

$2500 later, the Max was back, but never quite seemed the same. Only cost me $250 for the deductible and $300 for the Mustang Convertible I rented for the week the Max was in the shop.

If I ever see someone hit and run I will follow them until I run out of gas talking to 911 the entire time.

Unfortunately, more often than not, cops do almost nothing if they don't have a full plate. Even then, I've gotten police reports that showed no attempts to track down the vehicle despite having a clear plate number. And even worse is that insurance companies typically don't have access to partial plate runs (perhaps outside of fraud investigations, maybe).

Dammit Doc! Sorry to hear about the mis-hap but glad to hear you're okay. I can say with all confidence that I would have followed his A$$ as fast as I could with 911 on the phone. Tell the 911 operator not to rush because you don't have a problem holding the guy at gunpoint until they arrive. You'd be amazed how quickly they'll show up! This is Hit and Run and it's against the law. Write down as much information as you can about the description of the guy and his car for records purposes.

What's the prognosis on the G? Any major damage?

Letting the "ancient" drive stinks. Your car gets wrecked one way or the other. They hit you in the parking lot, or you run into the back of them while they are doing 35 on the freeway! I would be willing to take a tougher test if I knew it meant others had to do the same and their competence and fitness to drive was truly tested. As for you hit and run situation all I can say is bummer. That probably doesn't help much, but not much else I can do. Maybe he had to go change-out his depends or his "ooops, I crapped my pants".If its any consolation, old people smell funny...Hope you find a good body guy.

Yes, old people smell funny. Age is just a number. If you are considering that the remark that was made is offensive, then you have let the number take ahold, and are under the false illusion that you are old. You drive a G35, and I know you like "spirited driving". Hence, you are not old. You may have lived through many revolutions of the sun around the earth, but sorry friendo, revolutions of the sun around the earth, doesn't constitute old.

To the OP, sorry about your car. I hope that the cops track that guy down.

LOL No I'm not offended. Just a

The wifes uncle at age 82 paid $48k for a BMW Z3 or 4 roadster. I can't remember but in any case in only a few months he was gone but he did love that car. There are young people that smell too. People that don't bathe have another problem and it doesn't matter what the age. They are not allowed in my G no matter what their age.

Yeah, it's called being a filthy dirty hippie grommet. We have a surplus of them here. All you smell is rotting BO, and it is poorly masked by gallons of patchuli oil.
