I went for a drive with Kimiko because it's a nice clear night, moon is out, not to hot. We went down to Naha, what passes for a city round here and headed back. Police were thick and I had to take a roundabout route to circumvent a checkpoint. I have one headlight out, no cat, wastegate shooting into the street, the ground clearance of a streetsweeper and tires that stick out all the way around, I cannot get stopped! I was approached by another 180SX; he made a big show of his HKS tweetybird blowoff so I threw down the gauntlet, he accepted. I took a little longer to come on boost than he did but we were side by side immediately and I edged him out without much trouble.I got way ahead of him through traffic and waited for him to catch up. Bikes were crisscrossing around us so I let them go by and waited for him to go so I could follow, he didn't so I tagged the brakes and slipped in behind him, mainland plate, Osaka area. I started pushing him, not actually touching him but letting him know what I wanted. Telltale puff of smoke, he had hit it, I did immediately and we both began accelerating at the same time but I had to back off because he was definitely slower than me. I kept the turbo on boost as he slid over to the left and then dropped the hammer. I was past him by the top of the gear and began blipping the throttle, singing him a song with the wastegate. We went into a sweeping corner and he let off.He had a "tuned by HKS" sticker on his bumper, I chuckled and said to my wife he should ask for his money back. I let him catch up to me again and gave him a little crack of the gate coming off the light to see if he wanted to play some more but he pulled in behind me and gave me his 4-ways, "I give up" I guess? I beeped and gave him a friendly wave and came home. I figure I had 30 or less more HP than him but I know when he recounts this story Pooh will be this ungodly monster that the Paddy S13 would fear rather than the high mileage stock CA boosting .4 that it actually is His car sounded like a basically stock SR, muffler and BOV, couldn't see if he had an intercooler but he had several gauges. I would say 220hp-ish if he had a boost controller. He had a passenger but so did I, I had a bigger turbo but such a low boost setting I call it a fair fight and a clean victory. with a number plate like 1800 he must know he lost to the mighty mite, the "old" engine. I can't wait to see what this car can do once I raise the boost from the measly 6psi I am running now.Americans defended? checkOkinawa defended? checkCA18 represented? checkity check check check.

Oh yeah don't streetrace

God damn that was an exciting story. Seemed like a movie or something. I think the difference between you telling a kill story and the children telling one, is that yours are actually legible. Street racing is bad m'kay.

Well written story my friend, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time biting my nails wondering "Is TMS gonna win?, Is he gonna pull it off?"

i see your running a to4e hmmm any difference between that and the t3/t4 or the gt2871r ?? like spool times in the CA??

cause when i get my Ca18 i gotta decide what turbo still pulls near 9 grand and will support the all famous 450 rwhp but ill be happy with 400

It comes on boost around 3000ish in the right gear and full boost is in very quickly. As far as boosting that high I would go with a bigger backside than mine, a .63 a/r T04. Unless you already have a manifold with a T3 flange I would get a full T4 it's harder for the smaller wheel to turn the larger one. Back in the day this was the most common turbo on CAs, it made over 300hp with good response. In this day and age there just isn't a good argument for it when you can get even more efficient full ball bearing types. Were I shopping for a new screw I would get a GT series. If you want to wind your motor up that high you should definately look into aftermarket rods and probably solid lifters. I am not going to rev this one any higher than 8k and make the power from 4k-7k on boost ratehr than revs, 300 is my goal. If I didn't have an FJ in the back pocket i would build a bruce lee CA with 400+ but I would rather pull out all the stops on the Skyline and leave the 180 a smooth driving car with a respectable hammer under the hood. Around here 300 will handle most of the stoplight heroes. Most Skylines and Silvias will be no problem, big Toyota sedans, Supras and GT-Rs won't fall with any frequency though. Anybody above 300 is usually SO far above it it would take at least 600hp to feel well armed and a CA at that power level would be like walking a rabid pitbull on a daily basis.

my garrett t3/t4 is a .60 a/r. i might as well get rid of mine now cuz i cant find a dam manifold ...thats not fair lol i want more power!!! this gt28r isnt enough but maybe my new boost controller will wake it up lol. its nice to see a ca with a man turbo like that. go TMS!

why not center up and weld a T3 flange onto the CA's T2 flange? I would buid up the weld and then port it to a nice outward taper to the T3, problem solved. If you need a wastegate type cut a hole on the top above where the turbo bolts on and weld on a wastegate flange.

yea but the mani is a cast iron one so wouldnt it be kind of a weak weld? i think i might get an equal length mani for the gt28r and then maybe have a t3 flange welded on and a wastegate flange on their too...i never knew it could be so hard to get a dam manifold for a ca lol. ill see if i cant have flanges welded from someone around here...

smell that? that's sarcasm I do enjoy it so but I know it's wrong. I hate glorifying something I know is wrong but I do have some great race stories. The purists will balk and I can't say I disagree with them but just try not to endanger innocents. I wouldn't feel guilty if either myself or the other racer got hurt, it's the risk you take but on the street there are so many uninvolved innocent bystanders who can get hurt and no matter how careful you try to be you can never have all the angles covered. You are gamb|ing every time and sometimes other peoples lives are on the table and it isn't cool. I wish we had a track here, I swear I would keep it there. I usually run on a two laner up north late at night so usually it's just other guys looking for the same thing. No sidestreets, long straight stretches, reasonably contained. Still, **** happens and the only fear I ever have is hurting someone else, I am always looking for the guy coming out, the guy on the scooter etc. I try to be careful but I know that is a delusion. I need to get to mainland where I can get on a track or build one here. Somebody want to loan me 10 million, I'm good for it.
