pros: Cheap, easiest and cheapest solution to drift

cons: can be very dangerous on wet conditions, eats up your tire like cookie monster, attracts attention while turning slowly or parking

ps: My friend's welded diff has been on his car since 05 and still running well. So just get a reputable welder who has experience on welding diffs and you should be good. Cost should be around $50...well atleast in my neck of the woods

What I'm probably going to end up doing is using a welded diff for the track, then swap back in an open one for the street.

Open diffs can be had for next to nothing.

id hate to swap a diff in every month for an event.can you not find a used clutch type anywhere?usually around 400 bucks..and no need to have to swap a diff everymonth

dude dont do it! if u wanna get a nice diff get a 2 way! so much better. i spent like 570 for a used kaaz 2 way, and all i can say is WOW. drifting is an ease! so glad that i didnt weld mine up or got an vlsd. plus u can still use it on the streets.

2 way all the way!!

weldeds are not as scary as people say. they get a bad rap cause its "ghetto" do it, if you dont like it just get another open. its really not bad tho at all.

im already on board with AZ89two4Tsxiv been swaping my welded in and out for the past couple events i attended. It sucked at first but now im much faster and also give me an excuse to check over my rear suspension and body to make sure every thing is in tip top shape. Weld for track, open for daily

you can spend the 50-75 to have some one weld your diff or buy a j30 or a 180sx/ silvia vlsd for 25-200 and not have to worry about breaking a axle or straining drivtrain

Just do it if you wanna try it, 2 way will be better though, Some people use a welded to learn how it responds then get a 2 way and like that alot more. I have driven cars with welded diffs it feels weird but you get used to it, and i still have an open in mine and can hold a drift somewhat decently with it but transfers are next to impossible and you lose a ton of speed lol. I personally am just going to save up for a 2 way.

I don't mind my welded diff. Tires last longer that you think, and its great for drifting. Parking and slow turning is fun

This problem is so easy... Just 3 steps!1.Just get a rice cooker and a 50lb bag of white rice. 2.Stop eating people food. 3.Then get a s15 HLSD. Problem solved.

I daily mine. Like everyone says tire wear isnt as bad as you think. Like anything you get used to it. When I first started driving I did some pretty kick a** unintentional drifts in traffic . (almost slid sideways over a pedestrian the first time). drive it fine now.

You do however experience some massive understeer in the rain and such. You wont feel as comfortable going into the corners so fast. But if your poor like me your probably used to ghetto a** s***.

I swapped in a welded for a track event and never took it out. I still have my vlsd and 5 bolt axles chillin in my garage, I'm just too lazy to put it back in.

Rain driving - if you drive normally you won't have a problem. Don't try to be a race car driver in the rain and you won't notice any difference. Yes I've had the car slide out on me without warning, but it's a rwd car in the rain. Let off the clutch too fast in your open diff when it's wet and it will happen.

Tires - I got 11 miles on a brand new pair of all seasons before the cords were showing. I was on a track though. My normal tires show no difference in wear from when I had the vlsd in.
