Hey guys, I have recently posted a thread about the manifold/turbo connection gasket keep going bad. The car is running perfect, not rich or anything else that could cause the gasket to go bad. I have just figured that possibly that the manifold or the turbo connection plate is warped a slight bit. Once I get them out I will be able to tell, but I was wondering what metals they were made of. I know the manifold is cast iron (I believe) but what is the turbo? Just was wondering if these 2 metals would be ok to weld together. I know some of you are saying "PERMANANT IS A BAD THING" but I plan on upgrading to a t3/t04 sometime within the next 2 years anyway. Just for the time being I would like to get proper use out of the T25, and the exhaust leak is really getting on my nerves! Thanks in advanced for your answers/opinions.

I had to swap mine because we didn't tighten down the bolts when we had the engine out. Those bolts suck and the little clips that are supposed to stop them from spinning actually just make it impossible to tighten them with the manifold in the car. When we did mine, we banged those clips down so that they weren't going anywhere and put lockwashers on the bolts to stop it from getting lose and blowing the gasket again.

You could try some muffler gasket putty. We use that stuff all the time to seal our garetts to the turbo dodge manifolds. Never had a leaker yet.

DON'T CONFUSE THIS WITH "MUFFLER WELD" That stuff is sort of permanent. The gasket stuff will separate if you want to take stuff apart.

do you have a name of this muffler gasket putty? Thanks, this might be a better idea. Do you think I could get away to put this stuff around the connection without taking out the manifold/turbo out?

How about getting the flange resurfaced so it is flat? It shouldn't cost much to do.

I am in south jersey too, let me know where it is. Would he take everything out of the car and do it, or would I have to bring him the parts and he would just resurface it? I am not even sure what is warped yet, so I was just gonna try to save time/money by slapping some puddy on there! Hey, whatever works!!!

Do you know the brand name of the muffler gasket putty that you use? I was looking for some, but they all have different tempertures of what they are good up to. I am guessin you must use to top grade stuff. I couldn't find anything that was good for 1200+ tempertures. Let me know if you can. Thanks

I'm really not sure the brand name or type of material it is. I would go to a trusted parts store and ask. Just tell them you are making a gasket between a turbo and a manifold. Hopefully someone will have a clue. As far as temp goes, you are looking for a target of around 1600 - 1800 deg. Sorry I can't be more helpfull.

you could weld it, they are both cast iron, but I have a feeling that it would crack over time (the weld)

There is a lot of thermal expansion going on there, I was going to experiement with some custom stainless gaskets for my CA turbo since it kept blowing out the damn gaskets as well (and they are a massive pain to change on the CA, SR is easy in comparison).

You might want to look into sothing like that, a gasekt that's uber strong and not gonna give you the finger.
