Hey I just came from the shop that is trying to piece back together my car and they found something interesting. Apparently someone at sometime lost the bolts that attach the turbo to the manifold, so they decided to spot weld it together. I would like to get an aftermarket mani and turbo but funds do not allow. The current welded setup leaks, would I be able to run a bead around the mani and turbo and hope it works for awhile? What's my best course of action right now lacking the option of buying new stuff?

You can buy the studs and nuts at your local Nissan dealer. I can't imagine that it would cost much more than $20 for all 4. Look at the parts reference post. I think you can just get some for a 95 300zx TT.

The shop doesn't want to weld anything. When he got the car, it came like that. Or so I assume... Unless you think you can somehow cut or grind through the welds without trashing either the turbo or the mani, I think running a bead is your only option. If done right it shouldn't leak, but you will probably never seperate the two.

I was going to say that if it was only "spot" welded that you should be able to grind the welds and then bolt it correctly.

Mr. Joshua was right, the mani and turbo came like that. It really doesn't look like I can grind the welding off without damaging either component. So it looks like running a bead will be my only option other than replacing.
