Welded rear diff much?

I know I lot of the guys here are mostly offroad, so I was wondering if anyone has welded their spider gears rather than springing the dough for a locker? ...and if so, are you able to drive it on the street? and what kinds of cool noises does it make? Thanks!

You'd get sick of it pretty fast on the road. Every time you turn, the inside tire will have to slip and chirp. It's hard on the axle and on tires, and downright dangerous on icy roads. I'd really only recommend welding a diff for a truck used almost exclusively in the dirt.

i dont belong here i have a 240 but i have had a welded diff for over 2 years now. for dd it gets a little annoying around turns but you get great traction on dry roads not so much on icy roads as mentioned before.

Thanks guys- 240RB, at what speed does the inside tire stop chirping? For 20mph turns, does it still understeer? Or do you have to powerslide everything?

tire chirp for my tires 245/45/17 stops below 10-15mph. its just noticeable at very low speeds. as for the undersliding and sliding part the steering feels mor firm and predictable. around a turn the steering wheels will want to go straight but the force needed to keep the steering wheel in the dirction you want to go is very minimal and for sliding it only happens when you "get" on the throttle, if you drive it normal you wont slide anywhere, but its good to know that when you want to do a burnout or drift you wont have to worry about the dreadful one-tire-fire

it all depends on what tires you have. if you have them siped it makes a differance i have 35's on my HB 4x4 and a welded rear end and its fine i like it better more traction. and it only makes noise on certin types of roads and parking lots mine bearly ever make noise the worst is on cement.

i have a frontier that i have been drifting for quite sum time now... i have a welded diff... the only thing that bothers me is when the roads are wet.. ur tires just spin... but dont get me wrong its pretty fun... i use it for dd soooo? it should be ok...

You drift your Fronty?! Sweet! That is sort of the reason I've been looking for rearend kits (holy f***ing 'spensive) and possible weld jobs. I'll send it sideways on some real smooth wide turns, but I don't have the confidence in the stock suspension to make smooth transitions in the tight stuff. What'd you use to tighten up the front end?? anything? I'm sure you know the T-Bars get squishy as you drop em down- I don't care for the "dog dragging it's butt on the carpet stance", but without drop spindles, it feels waay better hiked up a bit in the front. Got any pics of your Frontier? I'd like to take mine to some track days here and have some fun haha!(people will laugh, but so what? when I knock off a bumper at least I can put it in the bed and not on the roof LOL!)
