Before you flame me.........yes I have searched and read over those threads and didn't find what I was looking for.

Anyways...........I am seriously considering welding my diff next week.

I SERIOUSLY CANNOT STAND PEG LEGGING OPEN DIFF'S ANYMORE!!!!!!!! I AM MAD AS HELL AT MY CAR WHEN I POP THE CLUTCH MID TURN IN THE RAIN IN 3RD GEAR AND GET MAD UNDERSTEER DUE TO THAT PEG LEGGING SON OF A ***** REAR END!!!!!

However,............I am broke and cannot afford an LSD of any kind. I was thinking about Phantom grip, but then learned how much it takes/costs to install it and threw out that idea. I was thinking about going with a factory VLSD.......but it just isn't enough LSD affect for my liking. I drove a freinds 240 with a J30 VLSD rear end and it was peg legging...not nearly as bad as my 240, but like I said, I HATE PEG LEGGING!!!!!! I like cars with MASSIVE LSD. I MEAN LOCKED. I JUST DESPISE PEG LEGGING WITH A PASSION!!!

What I enjoy is when I drive my friends dads F150 Lariatte with it's nearly locked rear end. Now that is fun. I love that truck in the rain. And so does my friend, and so does his dad. His mom however.........different story, she's scared ****less of it. lol

Anyways, is it worth it for $20 to have my friends dad (ASE certified mech and ex machinist/expert TIG welder) to weld my rear end to a solid axle???

I know I'll love it in the rain.........but what'll happen in the dry. I don't mind understeer when I'm not drifting........I just want to be able to turn w/o crazy stuff happening. Because when your not drifting I know you need the outside wheel to move faster than the inside wheel yadayadayada to make the car turn properly............Will it really be that bad in the dry.........It never snows here and if it does snow, or even get below freezing for that matter everything closes.

well when you weld it, its a done deal. NO MORE PEG LEGGING. so by the way you talk I think youl like it. my buddy welded his on his s14 and it was fine for daily driving. it chirped around corners every once in a while. but overall it was fine and free. ( i have the welder) I say go for it. if it sucks, go to the junk yard and by an open diff and swap it out.

how long has it been like that. no stress on the axls or driveshaft. I was thinking of doing that but some one said i would snap an axle ot driveshaft.

Is the tire chirp around every turn, or just when you cut a u turn or hairpin etc??

Like will it chirp around 90* intersection turns or not?? I don't want people to be scared of riding in my car because of all the tire noise all the time.

How long before the bushings go out, and what bushings are you talking about exactly.

I dont know about bushings going out, but my rear does creak, although it prolly creaked before the welded diff and I just didnt notice it.The welded diff is the cheapest and one of the best ways to lock the rear end. For maximum screechability (is that a word?) do 180's on freshly paved concrete, its hilarious, esp in gas stations, people just stare at you as you make a 180 around the pumps.

i have a welded diff in my s13 which has an rb20 thats makin 230 at the wheels. so far no axels have broke i did have to replace the bushings i have the welded diff in for about 6 months or more. i love it and cant get enough. its also daily driven. i suggest it if you dont have the money for an lsd. i also suggest new bushings asap. when the rear bushings go out it is not safe at all. very unstable

Axels will not break unless you are pushing serious power 350HP +

I know plenty of people with welded diffs who drift the tar out of their car with a welded and have 200-300hp never heard of anyone breaking an axel. If you have an N/A KA then don't worry about the axel thing.

I know this thread is kinda old.. but I just put my welded diff in, and love it.. It only get tire squeal if the road is really smooth, or else it just kinda hops.. only when it's a super sharp turn.. but, it feels great when you're sideways, or taking off from a launch...

btw, I believe Ivan is, or was running a welded diff and putting down over 700whp.. so yeah, it depends on how good of a job the welder did.

death traps in rain. tires NEED to travel at differant speeds whiel braking, or else the rear end can coem around on corners REALLY easy. if you ca fidn canadian r200vs off of the s13s, id said you can get em from a junkyard and just pay for the shipping. j30s have a fitment issue becuase of the abs sensor up front. vlsds can be very nice as long as you replace the fluid. they work by two discs heatign up and causign the silicon inside the differential fluid to expand and almost lock in place. after prolonged usage it can crap out. thsi can be taken care of by simply replacing the fluid. its just a hueg pain to have to jack your car up and replace it after every tiem of sprited driving.

I have no problems in the rain, I love it. Yeah, if you take a corner really fast, and have crappy tires, you might slide.. but why would you be doing that in the rain?

My Vlsd was awesome as well. It locked up everytime, and worked great. I was just getting tired of the clunk it would make ,there was a lot of "slack" in the gears. My welded diff cost me $60. $40 for the diff, and $20 to get it welded. I'll probably never go back.
