I recently bought my second Z. a 94 slicktop with a welded diff. Has powertrix coilovers and sitting on stock wheels. The car has a Sonoma Cage with it's fire extinguisher

My question. I'll be putting new tires and getting an alignment done, I plan on tracking the car at Thunderhill Race Track in Willows CA. I never driven a Welded diff car before on a track.

Would it be a bad idea to take this car? I know an LSD would be ideal but don't have enough time before the event. I'm sure my times won't be great but from your experience, do you say you slide off the track a lot?

I know driver has a lot to do with it, and I've only driven FWD on track. Never a welded

Thanks z fam

You will do great on the straights until you have to turn. I thought welded diffs are only good for drag and drifting.

A welded diff is going to force you to feather out of corners because any amount of throttle will cause you to slide. I honestly would skip the event if you cant get it changed. Swapping the diff isn't that big of a job, 3 hours with hand tools and good pair of jack stands.

Got it. Thank you for the quick replies. If I manage to get a LSD (looking at this one... https://www.z1motorsports.com/different ... -2547.html) then the track would be okay?

Or just considering this

This would be for a NA 94 Slicktop

Thank you!

The Tomei would be great but you need to rip apart the diff to install, time consuming and need some specialized tools.
The R230 TT diff will not bolt up to the NA subframe, need lots of work.

R200 is what you need to bolt right up:

Awesome! Thank you, I think I'll buy the R200, install it and should be fine for the track

Appreciate it!
