i would like to ask this qustion to people with a welded diff and people who have changed from a welded diff
1 what types of problumes have you incounterd with them (driving in rain/snow,tire wear, axle loss(breakage) ect)
2 would you recomend one for someone who wishes to get into drifting/burnouts/donuts without enough cash to get a lsd
3 what warnings would u give someone who just started driving a car with a welded diff

now befor any one says there is a search engine/google/ect i have done a search and evry site i chck is diffrent ////
ex of some i fround
axles will last aslong as a open diff//axels wont last as long
tires will last the same//tire lifes will be shortend
easy to drive in the rain//drive one in the rain better have ur obituary ready for the news paper

so im posting this here to hopefully find out truth if a welded diff would be a good idea or not

I had one for a short while. Had to go back to open and haven't been able to get another welded yet. Have known many people to have them. When I had one it was the ONLY mod to my car other than an intake and strut bars. I always run bald rear tires. I buy them when they're nearly bald and go do some drifting to break them in. They last 3 months tops, with an open diff. They lasted the same when I had the welded. That said I drift like a mofo open or welded so it makes sense. But if you're getting a welded it's for drifting so don't ever expect your tires to last long. lol.

As far as problems, they are scary as hell in the rain and the slicker it is outside the scarier it is. Basically if you turn in the rain, you are either drifting or going in a stright line straight off the road. So you HAVE to drift. Always. It's very predictable and easy but that said it's very easy to overdrive the car and make a mistake also. Brake and turn in the rain equals automatic traction loss. That's what's so damn scary when you don't intend to drift but it happens anyways and you push wide because of it and feel like your going off a cliff... no fun. So be carefull in slick conditions.

It's a great alternative. Mine broke because I slid off into the ditch and the twisting torque forces of the crash broke the welds in the diff and it eventually failed completely and siezed up. Which wasn't fun. I got a new diff from the junkyard and though I've always intended to get it welded I still never have 3 years later... oh well. I'm so used to the open diff I don't really need it and I always end up debating myself out of it. One thing I learned is that I needed more power cause it will make ALOT of forward traction even when drifting. So stock powered 240 is almost better off with an open diff cause you can keep the wheelspin up better. It'll def be welded when I eventually turbo it though.

So 1. only real problem is hard to drive safely in slick conditions when not drifting
2. yes. But I'd recomend learning how to make the open diff work for your advantage even more. (not everyone can though)
3. BE F'ING CAREFULL WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY IN THE RAIN AND ESPECIALLY SNOW/ICE

I would actually recomend a welded over a locker or helical or Vlsd any day. They all suck worse than an open diff for various reasons.

the reason i think welded would be a little better are
1 the car is a auto
2 i dont pull the ebreak

would they be 2 good reasons to get one welded or still try to use open ?

Why do you WANT a welded diff. People get welded diffs to drift easier, which I'm not sure you want to do because it's automatic.

I have a welded dif in my car. I love it. it makes noise at slow turns and backing up. my advise to you is to look into a 5 speed swap first. the welded dif definetly puts strain on trannies. i couldnt imagine it on an automatic. when or if you do this just be careful...crawl before you walk. meaning dont go out driving like a banshee right out the gate.
