Jim here. If I have joined the wrong forum, please advise. I am new here and do not own even one Infinity; I own a, or two, or four 300zx's I did a simple search after reading the search tips thread but did not get any useful hits on "1988 300zx fuel injector". Is there an engine guru who can guide me so I don't try to reinvent the wheel. I have one 1984, two 1986's and a 1988, all standard shift, no turbos, all with about a quarter million miles on them. The little lady drives the '88 106 miles/day every day, so it's little tongue hangs out pretty badly. Well a few weeks ago we started smelling just a hint of fuel inside car. Long story... need to talk about this topic before proceeding with injector replacement. If someone knows a better forum, please send a link.Thank you in advance for the courtesy of a response.Jim@MilkyWay

If you smell fuel in the engine compartment, then there's an external fuel leak.

While the engine is idling, look for leaks on the fuel hoses and around each fuel injector. If there's fuel around an injector, the injector needs to be removed and the O-rings replaced; lightly coat each O-ring with motor oil and push the injector back in without twisting it.

Hi rogomanThanks for the reply. It has been a while since I checked the forum as I had not gotten even one reply from my original post(s). Also, I have been sort of busy. I think I did in fact join the wrong forum, but that is not a big deal. I am using my experience on the only other forum I belong to, as a reference. I will find a good one before giving up too easily.That said, _VERY_ _VERY_ _VERY_good news (sorry, I'm excited). The repair shop for $60, diagnosed my symptoms as a little problem of leaky injectors. Nothing that a small $1500.00 investment could not resolve. I about crapped!So,,, I called the number for Nissan customer service, today and got a britt, in India no less, who basically told me not to waste her time. Then I called a dealer, who is apparently, required to retain permanent records of warranty injector replacement based on VIN no. I don't know if the injectors were recalled or just replaced, under warranty without actually being recalled.Guess what. My injectors do not show up on the data base as ever having been replaced. It is scheduled for a trip to shop during Thanksgiving week for _FREE_ replacement. WOW, what a wonderful Thanksgiving that will be! I now need to address a lot more issues on this and other problems, and as I said, the other forum (lawn mower repairs) to which I subscribe, is an incredible resource and wealth of knowledge. I bet those guys can point me in the right direction to hook up with a helpful forum.Again rogoman, thanks for replying

Hmmmm....

Well, I don't think you'll find a more thorough, helpful, or friendly Nissan forum than this one, but there's a first time for everything!

Are you saying that Nissan will replace your injectors in your 19-year-old Nissan for free?

I was about to refer you to one of our sponsors, Deatschwerks, they rebuild Nissan injectors for a mere fraction of the price of new ones. I have used them for 2 cars and have been very pleased with their service.

Hmmmm... Wonder if the dealer will replace the motor in my 1969 Fairlady Roadster?

<calls India>

Welcome aboard, again!

p.s. One small edit: Use Vaseline, not motor oil on injector seals - Works much better.

I am surprised if this is news to anyone who has owned Zcars. Apparently I should investigate so as to answer questions and state facts instead of speculating as to why this "injector replacement program" exists. I have had injectors replaced on two of my dozen or so previous Z's at no cost to me. As I understand it, dealer is reimbursed by Nissan for parts and labor. Good luck on your free engine replacement. Also, in your next post you mentioned Vaseline to lube rubber injector seals. I don't suppose white assembly grease would hurt anything, would it?

Sorry Jim - I wasn't trying to be snide... I'm just amazed that they'd actually follow through.

I guess it makes sense, if there's a TSB or recall, and the customer never takes advantage of it, that it'd theoretically be good "indefinitely".

I'm not sure about the white assembly grease... As long as it's slippery and won't deteriorate rubber, it should be fine.

Whoops! I must have missed the part about you being snide. If you axed me, I like to think that 1) I'm a little thick skinned and 2) I like to have fun with these posts. If someone gets their little panties in a bunch over something said in a forum, me included, then this is the wrong past time for them. I wonder how many owners out there don't know what I am talking about, concerning Nissan fuel injectors.Did _you_ know what I was talking about? I did a quick search on Dr. Googles engine, but all she told me is just exactly how easy it is to add fuel injectors to my shopping cart. I did not, however find any mention about TSB, recall, nasty rumor or anything else concerning their injectors. [

Oh, and I think most white assembly grease is lithium base.
