Hi there, this question is regarding my weird experience with my 91 240sx.

My car has idle / stalling problem after replacing the timing chain. After the job is done (upper chain only, done myself) the car couldnt idle properly (sometimes) and timing is set exactly at 20.

To solve the problem, i cleaned up the throttle plate, MAF, IACV, got new o2 sensor, fuel pump, and AIV is removed.

I still havent go thru the EGR. but however, i had this weird problem where my safc will give me a TPS signal even if i do not step on my gas pedal. It is off by 1-5% sometimes.

Besides, my car has alot of "bob bob" sound coming out from the N1 catback, but just sometimes. Its weird because if it does that, the car will rattle with the same rhtym (a little) and i do suspect the cat is clogged. but sometimes it is totally OK.

The car ran smooth and no problem at all, no power lost no nothing, just refuse to idle and stall. Sometimes the engine is kinda like reving itself for no reason. and RPM is fluctuating.

I do not know why it happened all after the upper chain is changed. Btw, i m running a 6btm and blaster 2 coil.

Pls help me with this. Thanks

i dont know what a safc is or a 6btm and blaster 2 coil. but it sounds like your closed throttle switch is on instead of off at idle. try resetting your tps. keep in mind the car must be at operating temp when adjusting it.

Thank you for the instruction NISTECH, i will try it out tomorrow.

And btw, how does battery have to do with car idling?

My car symptom... irregular idle. Fluctuating. Stalling when at full stop..

After all the work i did and seem no effect (but getting worse), i decided to get a battery charger to charge up my battery. After charging, i put it on and give it a ride. It was smooth at 1st, and idle was really stable, fluctuating was around 1-10rpm only.. but after a while the idle is gone and the stalling problem came again..

Then, i decided to take out the battery from my friend's MR2, and then my car run smooth again... well i will try it out till tomorrow to see the result, but i m not sure wheather if its only a coincidence that my car is running smooth at that time.

I've got quite a number of electrical stuff in my car...1) Car stereo 45wx4 with bright indiglo screen2) amplifier 300watt with bright indiglo screen too3) 2 10" sub4) equalizer5) safc6) boost gauge7) A/F gauge8) radar detector9) White face gauge with indigo light10) MSD 6btm11) Blaster 2 coilmaybe more..

I do not know if these have to do with all of them because my friends were telling me this is rarely the case.

If anyone have experiencec with battery causing idle problem pls let me know. I had gone thru too many steps from cleaining up valves, checking out for vacuum leak, check voltage, ecu code and at last dumping out valves....

Your opinion is higly appreciated.

J.

SVP?

hydro testing a battery with a bad cell ,from experiance, usually the bad cell comes up with black water in it (sulfate). if changing the battery resolved it. I would say that is your problem. low voltage to components can cause them to act iratically. all the items you are running should have minimal effect on your car since electronics do not draw much amperage. the most would be your 300w amp. but that isnt really gonna effect much if your alternator is putting out a good charge.

Thanks for the assistants so far, I've been driving the car with my fren's battery and I guess i found the cure to it...

I guess my battery is either too old or not powerful, or have enough to take the load anymore. Now with the battery on my car, i never encounter a stall situation or rpm drop. Car idle like a new car now.

Well, you see even if i on my car audio real loud and the bass real strong, my lights wont dim. In anyway i never though of my battery being bad because it is quite new.

I've been reserching on batteries last nite and decided to go with the OPTIMA Yellow Top D34 battery. Its dedicated for car audio and also high electrically demand car. I hope this will turn out great!
