Hi there, this question is regarding my weird experience with my car.

My car has idle / stalling problem after replacing the timing chain. After the job is done (upper chain only, done myself) the car couldnt idle properly (sometimes) and timing is set exactly at 20.

To solve the problem, i cleaned up the throttle plate, MAF, IACV, got new o2 sensor, fuel pump, and AIV is removed.

I still havent go thru the EGR. but however, i had this weird problem where my safc will give me a TPS signal even if i do not step on my gas pedal. It is off by 1-5% sometimes.

Besides, my car has alot of "bob bob" sound coming out from the N1 catback, but just sometimes. Its weird because if it does that, the car will rattle with the same rhtym (a little) and i do suspect the cat is clogged. but sometimes it is totally OK.

The car ran smooth and no problem at all, no power lost no nothing, just refuse to idle and stall. Sometimes the engine is kinda like reving itself for no reason. and RPM is fluctuating.

I do not know why it happened all after the upper chain is changed. Btw, i m running a 6btm and blaster 2 coil.

Pls help me with this. Thanks

you prob need to adjust your tps. this is common at my work if someone cleans the tb and does not reset the tps. if you just leave it alone, it will clear itself up within a month. to reset the tps the "new" way(nissan tech bulletin on this) you need feeler gauges and a multimeter. or you could likely do it the ghetto way and adjust your tps(fully warmed up/engine off) untill your safc says 0%.

Thank you for the instruction S13sr20chris, i will try it out tomorrow.

And btw, how does battery have to do with car idling?

My car symptom... irregular idle. Fluctuating. Stalling when at full stop..

After all the work i did and seem no effect (but getting worse), i decided to get a battery charger to charge up my battery. After charging, i put it on and give it a ride. It was smooth at 1st, and idle was really stable, fluctuating was around 1-10rpm only.. but after a while the idle is gone and the stalling problem came again..

Then, i decided to take out the battery from my friend's MR2, and then my car run smooth again... well i will try it out till tomorrow to see the result, but i m not sure wheather if its only a coincidence that my car is running smooth at that time.

I've got quite a number of electrical stuff in my car...1) Car stereo 45wx4 with bright indiglo screen2) amplifier 300watt with bright indiglo screen too3) 2 10" sub4) equalizer5) safc6) boost gauge7) A/F gauge8) radar detector9) White face gauge with indigo light10) MSD 6btm11) Blaster 2 coilmaybe more..

I do not know if these have to do with all of them because my friends were telling me this is rarely the case.

If anyone have experiencec with battery causing idle problem pls let me know. I had gone thru too many steps from cleaining up valves, checking out for vacuum leak, check voltage, ecu code and at last dumping out valves....

Your opinion is higly appreciated.

J.

ok, nissan official response to batt is that it can affect everything. reality check, that is not too common. if alternator takes a dump and batt voltage drops, then the idle may crap out too. if it runs good for a while after a batt charge, then i would check to see if it just cooled down and runs better from a cold start. many engines with miles run better at a cold start than at operating temp. you can clean up your air regulator and adjust idle if you have not already, but that may not help.
