Put a redtop in a 92 hatch.

Set timing based on FRsport guide

Second mark from the left to TDC

checked cam markings are sitting in correct position.

set cas to just right of the yellow paint (only has yellow paint mark no dimples)

when inserting cas yellow mark lines up with notch on cas

put everything back together,

no start.

if we adjust the cas shaft counter clockwise (cas black housing facing your chest and shaft facing away from you.)it gets better but has a rough idle.

when finally idling, pull plug on cylinders 1 and 3 and no change in idle.(2 and 4 cause rough idle and stalls)

cylinders have spark and fuel. igniter was not touched during wiring.

compression tested all cylinders at 148 psi

when idling checked for timing marks and the timing marks are on the bottom under the crank pulley. (marks are 180 off from the timing cover needle.)

have not tested:different cas, different igniter, different ecu

Also tried driving the car and it runs pretty good past 2k but idles terribly under 2k. didn't try driving hard just tried to get it past 2k.

doesnt sound like timing.. sounds more like a sensor isnt plugged in or isnt working causing it to be in limp mode. Check the ecu for codes

13 - coolant temp sensor.

Would I be able to reset the timing with it unplugged and letting it run in "cold mode"?

I will replace the sensor today.

i tried unplugging it as this was also bad on my ka but the ka at least started some times.

EDIT Just did some searching and the coolant temp sensor could be 2 sensorsthermal sensor or the ecu sensor. any way to tell which on eis the problem?

well replaced the sensro and tried resetting the ecu but now it's throwing a 11 - CAS CPS

and 13 still throwing coolant!

and this is after re-installing the cas @ tdc.

it did how ever sound like it wanted to start but gave a bloop (bubbling pop) sound out the exhaust, after that it wont start.

After resetting ECU, I reset the CAS again to TDC. then check for codes no errors (55)

try starting nothing. turn the cas clockwise starts popping sputtering, take the cas out rotate it a lil to give more clock wise adjustment the car will start but back to running on 2 cylinders (2 and 4)

check ecu and it is now throwing a 11 CPS error.

So I will just wait to see if I can get my hands another CAS And try that.

Sounds like mechanical timing issue. Did you hand crank the motor a few times to see if the links line up at TDC?
