Weird timing issue maybe?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

My 93 is running super rough. Wreaks of gas, shakes a lot. When I start it up, I have to gas it so it won't die. Checked ignition timing, it's good. Replaced MAF sensor, O2 sensor, checked EGR valve. I'm running out of ideas. How do I check valve timing? HELP!!!

Ok, but do you have any sort of insight as to what it might be?

you have a few possibilitys....

#1.) your not burning fuel properly..change plugs..wires ..cap and roter.

#2.) fuel injector is held open..you will have to ohm test the injectors.for a starter.

#3.) possible blown head ghasket..you may have coolant or oil fouling your plugs..

last but not least...your ecu took a s***..

this should put ya on the rite track for finding your issue..hope this helps..good luck

I think we have the same problem tomorrow i'm swapping my mass airflow sensor because one of my friends said that was his problem i'll let you know and like cool said if its your ecu i can test that as well since i've got one more laying around we shall figure this out

Thanks for your input guys. Cap, plugs, and wires are all new, so it isn't that. The MAF was used, so there's a possibility it's also crap. Head gasket is good though, I have no oil/water mix. How do you test the injectors? I'm a freshman at electrical so I have no idea how to do that. And is there any indicator concerning the ECU besides just swapping another? There isn't much of an S13 community around here

you can do a self diagnostic on your computer just go up to that little google search bar and search KA diagnostic you'll find a how to and all the codes so you can see whats wrong

Did that too. Got a MAF code, an O2 sensor, and at one point a Camshaft position sensor code. Eventually got 55 after I replaced the first two aforementioned parts, so I guess that rules out the MAF still being bad

looks like your gona need to change that pesky sensor in the dizzy man..that can be your issue...but before ya go there..test the injectors..just in case..you need an OHM electrical tester of some type...nissan for many years used high empeedence injectors..so if it says 17-19 ohm when you test them..then there good...if you get 15-3 your screwed and need new ones...now that sensor for the cam position is incorporated into the dizzy on some modles....that means you might have to get the whole dizzy to fix it...if your lucky..you can ebay a working one for under 100 bucks..good luck.

Yeah, that kinda makes sense since I replaced everything except the rotor itself. I'll try that after I get new injectors in

pull all your plugs and check them mine turned out to be just a plug that's electrode had been hit by my piston i believe

It did it before and after I replaced the plugs, so I'm thinking it wouldn't be bad plugs anymore. Also, how did that happen?

Unplug your injectors one at a time, it should run a lot rougher on working injector and no change on the bad one.

Well, I replaced the entire fuel rail, and it runs worse now. I can tell a cylinder isn't firing now. I'm about to give up and just get another KA cause I really dunno what to do anymore. It seems like I'm going backwards X_X

EDIT: Figured it out. It was the O-rings not making a proper seal. Now I idle at 2000ish RPM. TPS maybe?

Apparently it was my timing. It was pretty advanced. And my TPS or IACV may have gone bad in the process I guess that's what I get for second guessing myself

if your crafty..and some are on this forum..you can delete the IACV and all that crap in there..egr..ect..and just adjust your idle with the setscrew under the throttle body..you really only need 3 things for the engine to turn...fuel/air/spark...all that other crap just gets in the way..like a middle man for the sake of being GREEN!..its all bull anyways...simplisity is the way..but 100 buck smogs will be in your future....its up to you..good luck

lol lucky for me Florida doesn't care about the environment.I'm gonna have to look into that, cause I'm pretty sure I have a few things that are gonna cost me a lot
