Ive heard that a couple of seconds rattle at start-up means the timing chain is slapping something (slack) and the tensioners may be bad/gone. So I took off my valve cover to find that it looks like my tensioners were both intact and I couldnt push/pull and slack. The only proble looked like the left tensioner (facing the engine) might have been slightly loose. Any ideas?

depending on how u drive u only have 5 to 20 thousand miles left before uv'e got a worthless motor, since the ka isnt an interfience motor. time to decide; fix ka or swap ca or sr. a local mechanic estimated the fix to the tune of 600 bucks. he had 2 other ka's in the shop torn down fixing the same problem that will happen to every ka eventualy.....in my oppinion. i did just get my car and im certainly no expert.......talk to a nissan tech and im sure u will get the full story on the curse of the ka

Good thing Im about to buy a ka24de w/ 80k miles...I already need a new head gasket (white smoke at start-up)...Im not wasting money on this motor when I can get the DOHC + transmission for $250.
