I've got a 91 hatch that just wont quit thumping. I've rotated all my tires, to check for tire damage. I've taken all tires to get balanced and I had a recent alignment. Tech says I've got a suspension issue. So before I go swapping out all the parts of the front suspension, I just wanted to get some views about what could possibly cause my wheel/suspension to thump.

The thumping is very rhytmic, more noticable around 15-20 mph. Sometimes, once in total, thewhole front end shakes at 80 mph.

Well, that's all the info there is. I was thinking the hub/spindle, but I was also curious if the TC or the struts can cause this. Another detail to ad is that when I come into a right turn too fast, it understeers and I get a hard knock/thump from the same area.

Any info much appreciated.

sounds like a flatspot on your tire, but u said you already looked at ur tires. put the car up on jackstands. place a jack under the wheel and jack it up so the suspension is loaded. grab various parts on your suspension and try to move them around and feel for looseness or movement. goodluck.

sounds like you came very close to finding your problem by rebalancing and rotating your tires, but what I mentioning to you now is that you might need to replace the tire. If you hit a deep pothole or did something to break that steel belt inside it could have left a dead spot in your tire. I am surprised that the people that rotated and rebalanced your tires did not catch this, if that is the problem. Take it to the tire place and perhaps ask them to check it out for you. Good Luck with everything and I hope you get it fixed!
