weird things just keep happening

ok so sometimes when i start my car my check engiine light will come one and the car will sputter like it has a miss...however when i check the ECU i get no code...what could be causing this?after it idles for a second it eventually goes away....also it comes on when im cruising at about 60 it will stay on for maybe 1/2 a mile and then turn off...any ideas???im stumped

The cruising at 60 and the light comes on sounds like and EGR code but it's weird that you don't have any codes. Sure you're checking it the right way?

doing everything according to the sticky....but if seems like an EGR code ill look into it...thanks scott

Could also be an o2 sensor on the fritz if the MIL is coming on and off like that... I agree with gr8scott72, that sounds strange that you have no codes stored.
