Fred I have to agree with dadalus it sounds like rack bushings to me. the only thing that is strange is how the brakes effect it. does the off center change from one side to the other if you turn the wheel all the way to one stop then back across to the other stop?

I think I have only observed my temporary offcenter steering wheel on the right side, and it always seems to be about 30 degrees off.

Ca appears to handle normally during that condition but on braking in a straight it comes back to center.

Has a firestone mastercare ( the higher end ) firestone , check it out thouroughly ( known thos guys for years and I get get into the Infinti delaer , they are bookked for weeks).

Those guys couldnt find anything, even after close inspection drive , and various play with teh steering.by one of their best guys ( I know not like an Infinti tech but still he really tried)

One thing he did see was the HICAS was leaking in the rear and the HICAS light has been on for a long time (which I always connected to having the wrong ECU in the car ( JWT aftermarket ECU).
