weird synchro

Since I have had my car, about every month or so the transmission grinds for a second when I shift between 2nd and 3rd, since it usually doesn't do it again I figured I shifted bad, but when I was driving home tonight it did it 3 times, and I know I was full in on the clutch for at least 2 of them. I am pretty sure it is something with the synchro and when I searched i found that the 3rd synchro is a common weak link. I am gonna get new fluid put in the transmission to see it if helps. But I was wondering if it is weird to have it grind so irregularly.

not weird; many had this prob when it's cooler... until the temps go up to norm operating...

changing fluid helped out; just make sure it is GL4

lower fluid levels may also contribute a slight grinding as well.

a few upgraded to full synthetic (redline & shizz) to prolong the life of their trans & to alleviate the cold start grinding that's predominant to older trannies, but I just change mines every 2 years/30,ooo miles & check the level @ least annually to make sure...

Mine has a slight grind also until you get to operating temp. I plan on upgrading my fluid as well.

The last few times it happened I know it was warmed up cause I had been driving for 30 minutes, my trans also does very strange things when it is cold, so for now i am gonna change the fluid and hope it works.

this used to happen in my transmission a lot... like 3 or 4 times every time Id go out. changed the oil to 80-90 wt and everything is much better. it still chirps a little every once in a while, but the thicker oil made a big difference..

...then again, now it's really hard to get it into gear when it's cold (like wintertime cold), but that's the price you pay...
