a lil background of the last few weeks...

ecu went bad on me so i got a new one z32 with nistune type 2 installed. its working, loaded my old maps on it, car sat for a few weeks so battery was dead. jumped it and it fired up, took it for a 10 min drive or so and everything seemed to be fine. i always had a weird starting probelm with this car and i was hoping that the old bum ecu was the problem but that dosen;t seem to be. after i shut the car off i tried to fire it up right away, no dice. car would jsut crank and crank and crank and nothing, didn;t even sound like it wanted to fire. eventually after 5-10 tries the battery went dead. and this is where my problem from before comes in, even when the car is warm it always seems to take a few tries to get it to fire up... ive swapped a few things, mafs, ecus, checked all my wiring, car runs great when its running but starting is such a pain sometimes. im not sure if something just isn;t getting enough power when its cranking over but that seems to be the issue, its not so much that the starter dosen;t turn, the motor seems to crank fine, but it never wants to fire. it actually sometimes starts better when its cold. i tried adjusting some of the starting tables in nistune but that didn;t seem to make any difference at all. and i went through all my grounds and even added some. thanks for any help guys im really stuck on this one and its a HUGE pain in the a** cause i really want to get this thing to the track soon but its annoying when it won;t fire up consistently

Check the ecu water temp sensor. My car was doing that for a while til i decided to check the wiring for the sensor and the solder had come undone. Redid the wires and boom started right back up. I blame all starting problems on that lol.

Does the starter crank well and it just doesn't start or is it labored? What starter are you using? Stock one I hope.

I had a similar problem with my car. Started great when it was cold but had trouble when warm. My problem turned out to be the starter. I put a starter on from NAPA from a 70's Nissan. It worked fine well cold, but the solenoid on the aftermarket one was further towards the drivers side of the car and pushed up against the heater core lines causing problems when the car was warm. The NAPA starter was a little bit weak too. Once I put the stock one back in no more problems.

As recommended above I would check out the ECU water temp sensor. It should be the blue one on the intake manifold. Also check your battery, make sure your alternator is charging correctly and check out your grounds. I also had a ground problem and once I fixed that combined with the stock starter mine starts like a champ.

yea its a stock starter, i am going to replace the ecu temp sensor just for hahas even though it seems to be fine, all connections are top notch. have checked all grounds, i put a better battery on with some higher ccas, it starts pretty good when cold but like i said every now and then when warm you have to crank it over one time or so and another thing that helps a ton for some odd reason is just pushing the throttle a little when cranking usually fires it up easier.
