alright, I've read a lot of threads already and got some ideas. First off, my car starts fine when it's cooled down and everything but after driving for awhile and doing some errands and trying to get back in to my car it wont start. I don't hear anything turning just a noise coming from possibly the starter on the right side of the engine bay? I took my battery to go get it tested and they said it just needed to be re-charged and I thought that would fix the problem but it is still happening. I can still drive the car around sometimes only when it's cooled down. Like last night I had to wait about and hour and half before my car would start up again. I checked the starter and there's a lot of white gunk all over it. Looked like something melted. Could it be the battery or the starter?

It's a 91 240sx

Sounds more like the battery.

It sounds typical of a starter going out. Next time it doesn't start, take a 1/2 ratchet or hammer and tap the body of the starter and the solenoid. If it starts, replace the starter.

it is the starter. i had the same problem recently, that i have been having since i got it. the solenoid always sticks on these f***in things especially in hot summer conditions. you can buy a new starter and have it go wrong before the warranty expires i promise. i am on my 3rd starter now. and this car is my weekend driver!
