ok my 96 240sx makes this rapid thump thump thump thump sound when I turn left (after about 1 wheel rotation or so)...

I think this might have somn to do w/ power steering... cuz before my power steering was leaking and I found that it was a screw loose in the hose below the cylinder w/ the power steering fluid.. well I tightened it and the problem was gone but NOW the sound's acting up... could the sound be a remnant problem caused by the leak from before?

oh yea I think my timing chain guide is hitting the valve cover... can I just leave that be? or what should I do go about fixing it? I don't wanna get ripped off at a mechanic...

oh yea I know this sounds stupid but does 96 240SX standard models w/ 4 lug have ABS?

i doubt the noise is related. where is the sound coming from r/f ,l/f rear of vehicle? could be a tire hitting the fender liners . i suggest getting the car to do it. stop the car at that moment and go look in the area the sound is coming from. you may see whats causing it if its something rubbing. i would get the chain fixed it could be a broken guide. couldnt tell ya if its abs or not but you can tell by when you first turn the key on if it has it there will be a light that comes on in the cluster that says abs and shuts off after a few seconds

I would recommend that you take the tire off and look at it. It may be that a piece of material has detached itself from the tire and hits the car somewhere when you turn the wheel. This happened to me once and I could not figure out what was happening - the tire looked okay (I did not remove it!). A few miles down the road, tire failed - inner sidewall cracked! Fortunately, I was not going fast as I was concerned about the sound. It would come and go as I made turns, sometimes no problem sound at all!

alright thanks I will check it out... I know to do the timing chain it would be somewhat close to 1000 bucks for everything...

how much should I expect from just replacing the guides? labor + parts...?

the cost to do the guides would be about the same as doin the chain. less the cost of the chain it self
