Weird sound when starting sometimes..

Sometimes when starting I get this loud noise that sounds like.. Well I can't explain it - it's sort of like a "cough/strain" it seems.. Similar to the sound it would make if it's already on and you forget and try to start it.. When it happens, after doing it once and then trying to start it again, and then the third time it will usually just make a "click" noise and the electricity in the car will go off for a second. . After all of this it will finally start. It's an embarrassing noise and not to mention annoying. . Hopefully it's not very damaging.Any solutions to this issue? The battery terminals have some acidity to them.. I've hear dyou can pour seltza water or something like that on them to clear that up, is this true?Thanks for any help-K

to clean the battery terminals, make a light paste out of baking soda and water.

apply it to the terminals and posts until the mixture stops fizzing. then clean it with water.

does the noise sound like a goose honking? if so thats a bad starter. common problem. you can replace with a nissan starter(no aftermarket please) or try to rebuild yours.

Thanks.. New starter going in Monday. . It was the loud 'goose' sound. . Thanks Chris hehe.. and I cleaned the terminals! Thanks J30
