So here's the deal: I bought an '07 G35x (damaged). It did not come with a key that I know of. When I try to start the car with the door closed, it says "no key" and does not start. If I open the driver's door, it starts and runs just fine.

1. Is there a key hidden somewhere in the car that I can't find, and something weird is up with the key's signal strength; it needs the door open to receive a full signal?

or

2. Was the ECU/security system overridden somehow so that it starts with the door open only?

What else could it be? Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks!Jake

Out of curiosity, did you buy your car in Bismark??

Not sure what will fix it though...

Any Techs wanna chime in?

Check just below the VDC on/off and trunk release buttons on the dash drivers side left knee. There is a little spot you can plug the key into for valet mode

Hey Jeff - how does the valet mode work? I was wondering what that little space is for. Its definitely not a fob charger.

I just went out to my car and messed around with the key fob and that slot for it below the VDC/trunk release.

I can't get my car to do what Jaker555 is describing.

Further more after reading over the owners manual that port is not for valet? It is for starting the car if the key fob battery is dead.

So Jaker555 you do not have key fob for the car?? Is the shift lock out maybe on? There is a little slot next to the shifter you can push the key into to take the car out of park without starting it? Is the key in that slot? Is the car in Park when you are starting it?

weird stuff! Heres a page from the owners manual so you can see the slot I'm talking about.

No key in the dash slot.

I was wrong about the door being open...Tried it again tonight and it worked about half the time with the door closed as well as open. It's like the key is hidden somewhere in the car and the battery is nearly dead on the key - works some of the time, but not all the time. I've looked everywhere for the key and no luck yet. If I can't find the key I'll have to buy another key from the dealer and wait until the battery in the hidden key goes completely dead. I wish there was a "find my key" button that would make the key fob beep!

Your vehicle is under warranty, so why not visit the nearest dealer? If they can't locate it in a few minutes, request a loaner & have them call you when they find it.

If your car says no key then you don't have the key in the cabin. It is outside of it maybe trank. If you have the key even if it is on the back seat the no key warning would go away.

Couple of questions.

Can you lock the doors and the trank? If you can't it doesn't do anything or it is beeping fast several times? If it beeps fast couple of times then the key is in the car. If you can't lock the door and it doesn't beep then you don't have the key with in the range. If you have the key in the trank and the doors are locked the trank would not lock. When you try to close it it would continiously beep and pop back to open.

This should tell you if you have the key or not.

Let us know your finding.

Hey telco brother. The car is damaged I guess he bought it with salvage title so there is no waranty.

Check in the leather box the owners manual is in? Check in the sunglass storage spot between the sunvisors...

Found the Keys!!!

The fob and key were hidden inside the rocker panel right under the driver's door, which explains why the car would start with the door open!
