hey, whenever i take my car to redline, my check engine light turns on at high rpms, i'd say around 6000, but then turns off once i shift. i was just curious if anyone else has had this problem and knows what the hell it means or what i can do to fix it. it's been happening for quite a while now and its really starting to bother me. also, if i stay at one speed for an extended period of time on the highway, like staying at 75mph and not moving my pedal, it'll come on. once i floor it or let off and hit it again, the problem it had stops and within a few miles the light turns off again. i didnt think of it as a big deal, but i realized im definately losing power because of it. last night at the track i only ran a 17.5 (it's an auto convertible) but i know it should be doing better than that. the car is completely stock except for an intake, suspensions going so i know that slowed me down a little bit, other than that, it's fine. i dunno, if anyone can help me out i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I have the same issue, except for the part about redline and shifting, for 1.5 yrs now. I even checked for codes when the light was on many times and it kept saying nothing was wrong. I learned to live with it. It has not affected the car's performance neither does it feel slower. You can try checking for codes on your ecu when your check engine light is on.

i dunno, im wondering why the hell my car is so slow too. i have 2 friends with stock sohc blocks and they're both getting mid 16's in the 1/4 mile. i cant figure this **** out. i know my motor mounts are shot, my suspension is pretty shot, but i just cleaned my intake manifold, the cone itself is a lil dirty and i guess its time to change my spark plugs, oh and i gotta change my valve cover gasket. also, i realize the vert is like 300lbs heavier and theirs is stick, mines auto. but should that really be a whole second difference right there, shouldnt the dohc in mine atleast make up for some of that? i just bought new plugs i'll change tomorrow, im gonna get a new cone also this weekend and change the valve cover gasket. i cant really afford suspension quite yet. but honestly, i dont think those things alone should make this thing that slow.

Sorry dude, but I think that those times seem normal for a 240 thats auto, heavier, and in need of a tune up. Having a dohc doesnt make a difference if its not in good shape or with very high mileage.

well, i changed my plugs, they were indeed fine, and i changed my valve cover gasket, the rest of whats involved in a tune up is fine, compression is fine, only have 110k miles, but i noticed the guide on the timing chain is loose, and the chains been rattling, im changing that this weekend, i think that may be why im slow, the timing is off. i dunno how i havent blown the motor lolthe motor itself if in great condition though, im the second owner, the first one was an older guy, has records of everything well maintained and had it as a summer car

oh, i also found a small vaccum leak, gonna tackle that this weekend, looks like egr.
