Weird problem....

I just recently installed altima fans on my 91 240sx and a brand new coolant temperature sensor.

Fans are wired as pullers

when I'm in neutral/idle the car's temp gauge reads fine, in the middle/low..

once I put it in gear and start moving/rolling the gauge reads very hot(this is after the car initially warms up)

While driving on the highway, the gauge sort of levels out... but mostly stays to the hot side.

Has anyone seen this problem before?Im afraid to drive the car a long distance because I dont want it to overheat.I've tried:-new temp sensor-flushing cooling system-new theromostat-bled the air out of the system

I can't really think of what might be wrong other than a broken gauge.

Anyone have any suggestions?

did you replace the coolant temp sensor or did you replace the sending unit? sensor sends signal to computer sending unit sends signal to gauge

hm, I changed the one that looks like a blade connector, which I believe is the sender.

would this be my problem if I only changed the sender?

Well, the original one I replaced was from checker auto parts, so I thought that it was possible that it was crap. so earlier today I went and bought a new one from napa and it had the same results...

thanks for your help though, im still trying to think of what might be wrong.

do you think it could be the sensor?

well... the heat that radiates off the engine seems to be normal, doesn't seem like it's overheating... no smoke or anything out of the ordinary, but this only occurs when the car is put in gear and I start going.

I know the car's not jumping in heat that quickly, this is a matter of seconds. but it worries me.

I'm probably just going to buy an aftermarket gauge cause I am out of ideas

hahahaha... didn't even notice that lol.yeah I was probably just going to get an aftermarket gauge.

just seeing if anyone knew about it to save me some $$
