I have an 06 M35 sport 20,000 miles on it. About 2 days ago i heard a strange noise when i was waiting for the car to heat up a little bit. It was coming from the back of my car, it was a low buzzing sound but as soon as the car reached its normal temperature it stop. Also if i go out for 2 or 3 hours and i turn on the car i could hear it again. Could it be the fuel pump??????????

One more question. My friend has an 06 M35 sport also 24,000 miles on it. He told me that when he stops at a light and then accelerates the car it makes a ring type noise that comes from the front driver side. This happens when he accelerates hard he hears it. The ring type noise is not constant only when he accelerates the car u could hear it. What could it be??????

Quote »Could it be the fuel pump??????????[/quote]Could be ... but, usually, this stops once the pressure is built up (even without the engine being on). It does not take warming up to go away.

The other ringing noise would be tough for us to figure out, I think. Can you tape (with audio, of course, if you use video camera) it and post that?

Might be time for a visit to the dealer to get an explanation of what is up with those noises!

Hmmm ... on second thought ... "ringing". I wonder if he is hearing engine pinging? Does it sound like marbles being rolled around in a can.

If so, then he may have some bad gas in the car or carbon build-up. Try to get some premium and fill it up ... after the second tankful or so, if this rining noise goes away, then it was probably the gas quality. Your friend should consider switching to Premium (the monthly incremental cost is relatively low for most people - the difference is only 10 to 20 cents per gallon) or a better gas station or both.
