maybe if you describe it a little better, we can help. "weird" doesn't really do any good.

try a junkyard, but anything cheap from best buy or something would be a lot nicer than the stock system.

If the wierd noise is an annoying "whining" sound, it's absolutely normal. IIRC it's the idler gear on the reverse gear that makes the noise...

It's probably the e-brake catching and releasing. On every s13 I've been near the e-brake makes a weird clunking when in reverse.

When I go in reverse there is this horrid scratching sound, I guess its a pad or caliper or something moving because its only for a sec or two but it sounds like youve just nailed the car behind you

a bit scary!

I have an original 1993 Nissan 240sx Radio and CD player out of my SE Fastback. I was about to ask if anyone would be willing to buy it or it was worth putting up on ebay. I don’t think it works to well but you can always clean it up and check the wiring.

I know im bringing this thread back from the dead, but I'm also experiencing a scary "scratching" sound while moving around in reverse (sounds almost like a car rubbing against another car). It happens randomly whenever im turning the steering wheel in reverse gear.

Did you find out what the problem was?

I have the same problem with my '89.

When in reverse, this god-awful noise comes from the rear of the vehicle. It's automatic (for now), I gently press the brakes till it stops then release and sound is gone.

I've read several pages about this phenomeon. Most I've read say rear brake rotors are warped. I've looked at mine and they don't seem warped (but I really don't know what I'm looking for yet). I've also read that it could be suspension related.

Oh well.

really hard to tell if they are warped just by looking at them. what you should do is take them to autozone and have the rotors turned and slap some new pads on them. that is what i am going to be doing to mine here in a day or two. because mine is doing that now (pretty sure it is the brake rotors being warped and/or the pads needing replaced as my eclipse did the same thing)

yeah, I wouldn't think that I'd be able to see anything. I'm going to get my brakes upgraded to braided steel lines, slotted rotors and better calipers soon so I'm just waiting it out. (Not meaning to jack the thread)
