I know im bringing this thread back from the dead, but I'm also experiencing a scary "scratching" sound while moving around in reverse (sounds almost like a car rubbing against another car). It happens randomly whenever im turning the steering wheel in reverse gear.fuzion wrote:When I go in reverse there is this horrid scratching sound, I guess its a pad or caliper or something moving because its only for a sec or two but it sounds like youve just nailed the car behind you
a bit scary!
really hard to tell if they are warped just by looking at them. what you should do is take them to autozone and have the rotors turned and slap some new pads on them. that is what i am going to be doing to mine here in a day or two. because mine is doing that now (pretty sure it is the brake rotors being warped and/or the pads needing replaced as my eclipse did the same thing)Axoure Dragonkin wrote:I have the same problem with my '89.
When in reverse, this god-awful noise comes from the rear of the vehicle. It's automatic (for now), I gently press the brakes till it stops then release and sound is gone.
I've read several pages about this phenomeon. Most I've read say rear brake rotors are warped. I've looked at mine and they don't seem warped (but I really don't know what I'm looking for yet). I've also read that it could be suspension related.
Oh well.
