just got my sr done, everything so far has been fine, except for when im going in reverse. when i go in reverse it makes a high pitched 'whine' kinda noise and it's on and off. basically goes sqeak, stops, sqeak, stops, untill no longer going in reverse. doesnt do this at any other time. the car is a 5 spd redtop. prior to getting the engine, that car wasnt ran for about 8 months, what should i look for? is there any liquid i should change? etc . any input is very welcome, thanks guys.

I don't think it's an SR-specific problem, but...

*sigh*... you know... I hate to bring this up, but I would recommend checking everything from the flywheel to the rear brake systems. I had some noise in reverse, on my KA, and while it was a little more obtrusive than a high-pitched squeeling (it sounded and felt like the rear passenger wheel was rubbing against the wheelwell...), I ended up having to replace the clutch slave and master cylinders, the brake master cylinder and resealing the transmission.

If nothing else, have a pro check your transmission. I assume that your SR engine came with a transmission... and I hope you didn't toss your KA transmission (they're actually interchangable.)

I don't know. Some people tune out ugly noises by cranking up their systems and drowning them out. Personally, I think that a really strange noise is worth any measure of investigation. Better to spend a little dough now to fix the problem before you wreck your transmission... or anything else for that matter!

Good luck and welcome to the boards!

My guess would be your pilot bushing.

may want to check the rear caliper pins to see if they're properly lubricated. if they aren't, the caliper can stick, and it will make noise when backing if your rotor is the slightest bit warped/uneven. just take the 14mm bolts off, and pull the pins out of the caliper and clean them w/ a rag, and then apply a good amount of multipurpose grease and put them back in and push them in all the way a couple times. If its been sitting for a long time, there's a chance the lubricant dried up.

use brake grease instead of multipurpose greese, brake greese can withstand higher temperatures.
