weird noise

When i go to start my 240 up after it's been sittin for awhile, like overnight or after school, it makes this grinding noise, what could that be, and when it's makin the noise i can gas it, and it will get louder, it only does it for 2-3 seconds.

mine did that once. make sure you dont hold the key longer than it takes to start. the only thing i think it could be is the starter jaming or something like that. cleck all of the mechanical starting system (starter gear, solinoid, flywheel)

auto or standard. posiblity that the pilot bearing is jacked up..or is constricted when it is cold.
