This noise only happens after starting my car for the first time in the AM. Here is the routine:
1. Turn car on
2. Reverse out of garage, steering wheel to the right
3. Go straight a few feet then turn a slight left, then a slight right.
4. Go straight another few feet then turn a full right and hear a slight pop noise followed by a weird kind of "ssshhh" noise that doesn't last but a second or two.
5. Straighten out wheels and the noise is gone for the rest of the day.

See my crappy diagram for this. Any help or tips before I take it in? I'd like know where to ask them to look rather than wasting time. The noise sounds like it's coming from the front driver side.
Enjoy making fun of my .jpg :gapteeth:

sounds like CV joint on one of the two sounds. according to your description, it would be on the drivers side. i am not that familiar with the front ends of infinitis so i cannot say for sure.

but it sure sounds like CVs to me. what year is your vehicle?

Ya sounds like CV joint.

Just have it inspected. If you cannot recreate the noise at the dealership with them in the car, they won't do anything about it.

Maybe an end link or something. If you ran over something recently, or hit a LARGE pothole, going fast, make sure you include that in your details.

get their front end guy in the car and do right hand donuts in their lot. you are sure to hear some kind of noise.

Thanks for the info and tips! I can't recall hitting anything going fast but that doesn't mean the husband didn't accidentally do that.

I would say cv joint too. Can the sound be replicated only when turning to a certain direction? Is it only when u turn left? Right?

accoridng to her art work, it looks like it happens during a right hand turn. i have no clue if that would be indicative of a bad drivers side cvj or a passengers side cvj.

I can't get the noise to replicate after it happens in the AM. It usually happens when I turn right but it has occasionally happened turning left.

when it happens as you drive out of the driveway, and then you continue driving to your destination, how long are you parked before you drive again?

i would go to a big parking lot and try to duplicate the same exact maneuvers you do as you drive out of the garage and out of the driveway.

i dont think the vehicle being warm or cool would make a difference in relation to cv joints though. strange

The car is parked for a bit over 3 hours before I drive to lunch. Then another 4 hours before it's driven home. I'll try a different way out of my work parking lot tomorrow, it's pretty similar to how i maneuver in the AM. I'll try to record the noise if possible.

I tried the route home that was similar and nothing happened. No noise. Tried to record the noise today but all I can hear is the squeaky brakes when reversing. I need to find a way to mount the camera or something.

Whatever this noise is, it's definitely affected by temperature. Cold front came in today and every time I started the car and drove off, the noise happened. Any ideas as to what could be temperature affected?

Belts, and all metal expands and contracts according to temperature.

Leave it at the dealer for a few days until they find it. They probably have access to a data base of all customer complaints across the country and I'm sure someone else has already experienced the same problem.

I have a noise when I 1st start my 2006 g35x and go to slightly above 20km/h in speed. this only happens once after each time i start the engine and is direction independent. I wonder if yours is something similar?

So, after getting off my butt and going to the dealership where I purchased the car (not Infiniti), here are the results.

-Replaced lower control arm (only part extended warranty covered)
-NEED to replace compression arms (quoted $795 for this)

Also got a "PS" your drive belts need to be replaced and you need a brake fluid flush.

I guess I should have asked the guys this, but, will replacing the control arm(s) undo my alignment in any way? Is $795 too much to pay for the other part of it? I'm still hearing the noise, will this go away once I do the other half?
