Alright guys I have an interesting issue with my 01 Sentra SE. First off im gonna say everything is working fine the new clutch engages good, and transmission shifts good. Heres where it gets weird though if im sitting in neutral with the clutch out it is making a weird clicking noise, but when I put the clutch in the noise disappears??? I know the clutch is good because I just had it replace (made the noise before too) and the transmission doesn't have any tell tale signs of being shot. I was wondering if any one else has ever had this issue or might even have an idea of what it might be im thinking clutch master cylinder but i really have no idea? Any help is appreciated!! I want my baby to sound normal again

is the noise coming from the transmission? See if the clicking is from the floor by the pedals, maybe it's just your safety clutch switch that is on the fritz and clicking on and off when it's not engaged - just a thought..........

I wish it was that easy but its not a cabin noise it is definitely coming from inside the engine bay.

Well I give up and the noise is getting worse I'm starting to think its the input bearing in the transmission. Shes going to the transmission shop very soon hopefully this week. Wish me luck :ohno:

sounds like a similar problem I had on a Rustang years ago. It's probably the input bushing or bearing on the input shaft. After they wear a while they will make noise sitting at idle with the trans in neutral.

Promise Land is on the right track... see which one of these noises best describes your situation: "taken from an automotive website"

A growling or grinding noise when the clutch is engaged may be due to a bad transmission input shaft bearing.

A squealing sound that occurs when the clutch pedal is depressed and held is usually caused by a bad pilot bearing or bushing.

A chirping noise that intensifies when the pedal is slowly depressed would indicate a bad release bearing.

If you hear chirping while idling in neutral and the noise goes away when the pedal is slowly depressed, the fork/pivot ball contact point is making the noise

"A growling or grinding noise when the clutch is engaged" BINGO!!! That describes it perfect, just hope she makes it to the shop for the repairs. Any one have any ideas of how much a repair like this will cost on a sentra?? Thanks guys!

Can't give you an exact figure but most of your cost is gonna be in labor!!!

Well it was the input shaft bearing but the shaft is so screwed it woulda been about $2500 to rebuild. Also had other problems such as metal chunks floating around in the oil. So I am going with a 2001 Infinity G20 rebuilt transmission for $1800. Figured the longer gear ratios would work out better anyways since I do alot of highway miles to and from work. Maybe my gas savings will help pay for my rear lip and paint job I plan on getting?
