Alright guys I need some input.. I'm not sure what the heck is going on now with my Z. Whenever I drive down the road I hear this horrible sound coming from the rear of the car. It seems to get louder as I accelerate and when I decelerate it goes slowly away. Also another symptom I've noticed is that my steering wheel is literally shaking in my hands as I'm driving like hardcore shakes. I'm thinking either my Rear diff is going out or my alignment is so bad that my car is having issues with it right now? What sounds more plausible? Also another thing that I need to mention it started acting up after I switched from a 245/50/16 all season tire to the stock 245/45/16 size. I haven't put on the new 18" MB's yet mainly because I want to get the right tires for the car. Anyways any help would be great!

Ok, first, how would you describe the noise? More of a grinding? A humming? A clanking?

The shaking in the steering wheel is due to something rotational being out of spec. Alignment bad, tires not balanced, bulged/cupped/separated cord tires, ect. Since there is a vibration, I would rule out wheel bearings and diff, unless the sound is a grinding type sound. You will feel a steering wheel vibration whether it's the front or rears acting up on a '90-'94 TT, since those years are Hydraulic rear actuators, and the later years were electric.

Get back about what kind of sound it is and we'll be able to help more.

The tires you bought weren't used were they? Sounds like it could be cupping but if the tires are new that's pretty unlikely. Bearings can make some strange noises when they go out - not just metallic/grinding. I don't think I've ever felt a bad bearing shake the steering wheel though

^^Heheh.... You definitely didn't drive my supervisor's Hyundai before I redid the bearing that had ~2.5mm of play in it. O.O

Honestly I believe it's gotta be bad alignment, the sound is a humming sound and the steering wheel shakes from side to side while I'm driving. It sounds pretty bad... I do have some work to do on a tie rod on the vehicle I believe the front driver side. Could that be the cause of it? Bad aligment and a loose tie rod?
