weird noise from 2k-2.3k

ok when im driving in 1st, and I reach about 3k and shift, as the rpm's are going back down. from 2.3k-2k I hear a grinding/whine noise I cant determine where its coming from. could it be the clutch severaly worn out? or could it be a motor issue?. to word out the noise its kind of like a vibration mixed with a whine and hardly a grind. what is this?!?! any help would be really greatful and if anybody could help me determine the cause of the problem more that would be good too =)

you might have a clutch throwout bearing that is going bad. Not too sure but mine had a noise like that, first only in 1st gear then in 3rd. Dont know but I had to change my clutch anyways, along with the bearings and now the noise is gone.

hmm... possibly heat shields vibrating a little?? That sounds like the same condition and range that my heat shield does the rattle\vibration thing. I don't know though, just another view point.

Does it rattle between 3/4 and full throttle at ~1900-2800 RPM, or is that my engine knocking?

Well, at those throttle positions my exhaust is too loud to hear all that. now if i'm under pretty light acceleration, i here that sound somewhere around that rpm range. As far as knocking, I'd say you'd probably hear the sound increase all the way through the rpm range, regardless of throttle position. This is very hard to diagnos without hearing it in person.
