Weird Noise 300zx non turbo

Ok so my car is making a really weird noise and i was told it was the timing belt so i bought one then took it to another shop cause they were cheaper to put it on and he tells me that its not the timing belt. He tells me that they will do a diagnostic on it and find out whats wrong, well every true 300zx owner knows one thing that they cant tell whats wrong with out taking anything off and sure enough he spent all day with it and tells me that he wont know fer sure till he pulls the valve cover. Well to be on the safe side i posted a video on youtube of this sound it sounds like a really fast tapping coming from the engine i would just like to know if any of yal have heard this and know whats wrong so i dont have to waiste time or my money letting him search for it. Let me also explain this only happens when i am in gear if i am in netrual it does nothing but i guess have a little miss.

I have never heard anything like that before. Sorry I can't help more, but that sounds ugly. Could be a collapsed lifter, but I've never heard one sound like that. Good luck.

Do NOT drive that thing anywhere, that is the worst sounding VG I have ever heard! Sounds like REALLY bad VTC gears or your timing belt is hardcore rubbing against something. Either way, get that thing looked at.
