So, I found out why my starter was just clicking yesterday, It was dead, So I got a refurbished one from auto zone, Put it in. And still, Everytime I apply a direct 12 volts from the battery, All the starter does is click.. Could my battery possibly be dead or not supplying enough current to the starter to make it turn over?

yes, sometimes when a starter goes bad it draws enough current durring its final days to toast a perfectly good battery.

Yes the click your hearing is the solenoid moving over to engage the starter teeth to the flywheel teeth. My suggestion is take off the starter and take it to your local parts store and get it tested. A weak battery could cause this as well

I just replaced my starter after it totally took a dump on me, so i replaced it with an auto zone one as well, ive previously replaced the battery and cable due to a fire and I still randomly get the starter clicking, even with the new starter. my friend also gets the came crap.

So we found out when you use a piece of wire and poke at your starter with both ends while the key is set to ON the car will start. LOL. He wired up a push start button so if his car is giving him an issue with the clicking he just uses the button, otherwise the car will usually start up with the key. As for me i deal with it and keep a piece of wire in my glove compartment just in case...

I think its some weird internal short in these crappy Nissan and rebuilt starters

I'm getting an optimum redtop today, I got the car started.. And it runs for about a minute with 0 rpm's and wont idle on its own, Also it's NON responsive to me opening the throttle WOT. And i did the timing more than once, TDC #1 Cam lobes facing out, 2nd mark on pulley, pull dizzy out and put on number 1. Still nothing, Also when It is running for that one minute, and I open it WOT and close it all the way, I can hear a psssshh sound in the valve cover..

there are only 3 components in the starting/charging system. alt, bat, starter. if the alt faults to ground it could cause enough of a drain to kill the battery or leach enough power to keep the starter from turning.
