i tried searching for a solution t this, but nothing seemed to help. recently my car started to idle weird. when sitting at a light, the rpm starts to jump from 900 (the normal rpm that my car is at) to abut 1400 rpm, then back and forth, and then goes all the way down to about 400 to almost stalling, then up again. when im driving and putting it into neutral while the car is still moving, it starts to jump up and down again. i also notice a strong gas smell from inside the car.

i tried checking my MAF and bending the contacts to make sure it's properly connected. when i unplug it the engine doesnt stall, but instead goes down to about 500. does anyone know what the problem could be?

The fluctuating idle sounds like a vacuum leak. The strong gas smell could be a separate problem. The culprit could be a bad gas tank seal where the pump housing meets the fuel tank.

Your engine should die entirely when the maf is unplugged, sounds like a bad maf to me. also check your tps.

could be a blow-by gas problem. ur compression rings on ur pistons might be bad. pull ur dipstick out and smell it. if it smells like gas then its either ur fuel pump or ur compression rings.
