Weird Gas Gauge readout (2007 Infiniti M35X)

Got gas a couple weeks ago when the gauge said the tank was at about 1/8th full. Only pumped about 11 gallons and it stopped. Didn't seem right but I couldn't force anymore in. Assumed the gauge was off but when I started the car it showed about 3/4 full, which is what you'd expect with 11 gallons. Ran it down to 1/4 full and filled up again. This time it took as many gallons as I expected and the gauge read full. Hasn't happend in 2 refuelings since.

Odd. Maybe there was an air bubble in the tank?

As far as I know the tanks arent pressurized so there would be no air bubble.BUT there could be plenty of possibilities so keep an eye on the situation and if anything take it to the dealer to look at.

I had a little chat with a service manager in Oxnard California who suggested that I always remove the cap before I pay for the gas at the station.

He indicated that there is a split tank in the model and that the cap should be off for about 30 seconds if you want it to fill correctly. I have always done it that way and have never had a problem with it.
